I'm thinking of doing a day with Sean Edwards and wanted to know which track may be a good one to do with him. I'm in SW London and have been to Good wood/Silverstone/Bedford/BH GP so was after some info on which track would be good considering i dont want to drive for hours before getting to the track.

Castle comb and Snetterton both seem a fair distance but after looking at the circuit maps not sure which would be best.

thanks

Snett. Very good coaching track. Lots of different corner types.

was at Snetterton today for the first time in the CSL and apart from the puncture at about 3pm had a great day.

The track does have a wide range of corners and is alos quite fast generally with only one 2nd gear chicane.

I would go there again (as long as the briefing guy keeps it under 30 mins coz he did go on a bit)

Beautiful weather which i beleive at Shetterton is not so common.

I'm the other end, never liked Snett, some good corners and its fast but it's a tad boring, CC is a cracking fluid track with charm, i suspect you'd learn more around there than Snett, challenging to get right.

Also more run off at Snet. I dont fancy exploring my cars limits at Castle C lots of barriers that are not very far from the track.

I have an evening at Snet on the 11th July for just £85. There will be very few cars on track with a number of 1st timers being looked after by the more experienced and the ability to buy a session of instruction for £25 would make this an ideal 1st venture into track driving

see the OBNS n Friends Track evening thread on this forum

Thanks OBNS,

Its not my first time and really want a pro with me for the day to pick out my faults and better them during the day.

I will look into the evening you have mentioned.

There will be at least one if not 2 professional drivers at the evening provided by MSV. I believe that instruction is the least expensive way of going faster. I hope to see you there.

For a GT3 I would say Snetterton for sure Bund! Castle Combe is not really a Porsche track and quite dangerous!

Professional driver’s lol, you can only class your self as that if you get paid to race and not many do in motor racing. Instructors that are hired by track day companies, you could get any random person, although it does vary between companies. (I had a fire fighter on my induction day at palmer sports, never raced, spun twice on his own demo and he was instructing there the next week) They don't really teach you how to seriously drive, just get you round safely and teach you a few things here and there and make you a bit faster and safer. I know this because I used to work as that type of instructor and you do a lot of people and get paid hardly anything, hardly motivation to try and make every person you get in with the next Schumacher! Then again, I know some instructors who work like that and are really good, it's just a lottery of who you get to be honest!

Where as I am dedicated too 1 or 2 people for the day and bring the best out of them and most of my clients are wanting to race or racing already, so I need to teach to a very high standard. People who have done days with me vouch for that and they them selves have seen the difference between me instructing them for a day and a random instructor doing a session or two. You get what you pay for I guess, like in most things hey!

Well an evening event is ok, but if you have never been to the track before and are taking on board someone like me, then you want as much time on track as possible, to get the most out of the day. Evenings are great a s a refresher course, but not as a first time there as there only about 3 hours on track.

Aha, that's what we like to see on PH, narrow views! I have some experience of instructors mostly ARDS. All have been excellent drivers and some can instruct and some can't. My ARDS instructor for my ARDS test at Silverstone was a paid racing driver and was an appalling instructor. In fact he was the last instructor I used, so I clearly suffered deep psychological damage as I have never managed it since!

One day, I'll get my schedule together enough to get tuition from you Sean.

Clubsport, well sure CC is fun in a Porsche, it is just not the most suited track for Porsches is what I mean really. Quite tight and daunting when you drive it, but it's still fun for sure, what track isn’t! It is not the best track to instruct on in a Porsche as well, no run off and although I get the maximum out of the person, I also have to make them bring their car and us back in one piece wink

Bert this is true also, being a good instructor is completely different to being a good driver, you could be either one and not the other, or both! Paid drivers at Silverstone, there are not many, Mullen, Barfy and Moseley. To my knowledge there pretty good instructors? Which one did you have a bad experience with Bert? Was he really that bad haha, poor Bert, needs confidence back in instructing, although your driving is good already (seen you at a track day in rad), but everyone can always improve of course...

Both are great tracks although it would be difficult to answer which one is "best" since that's a fairly subjective issue which no-one can really answer unless more info is provided.

What I would say is that I would listen to Melindi and Sean - they've probably seen many different people at many different tracks and both seem to be guiding you to the same answer yes

Have fun driving
