I'm booked in for a trackday with a friend later this week, the first time for both of us. The problem is, I've kind of promised to let him drive the car... Now that I've thought about it for a bit, I must confess to feeling a fair amount of anxiety, as I don't know what to expect, what the other drivers will be like or how my friend will handle a powerful RWD car for the first time...ie I'm worried that it's going to be totalled.
Now I've just spoken to him to explain this and he's okay with it all, but we've agreed to either hire a car for the day or go somewhere else where the car's included as part of a package. Does anyone know of either at a reasonable cost? - oh and this has to happen within the next 2 weeks.
Many thanks

Bookatrack are a good bet, hire one of their Caterhams for the day on an open pit lane day so you effectively go halves on the cost, which should come out ~ £300-350 each including the hire cost and the cost of the trackday itself.
Just having a quick look at their calendar they are doing Elvington on Saturday for £550 hire plus £120 for the trackday (I dont think the hire cost includes the day but might be wrong), being an airfield day is ideal for beginners as there's generally very little to hit.

Def Bookatrack caterham. You wouldn't le him ride your bird so he shouldn't be allowed near your gearbox...

I was about to tell you to stop being such a big iron and that you should just sack up. Then I saw your car.Don't let that fugger anywhere near it.
In conclusion...called Bookatrack, they didn't have any spare Caterhams for Bedford, but they did the following day at Donington (Thursday evening). So we trekked out from London at 12, swapped into the TVR from Oxford onwards, through TORRENTIAL rain round the M42 (terrifying, did 40mph through a river), eventually arriving at Donington 2 minutes late for the briefing at 1702, but in glorious sunshine!!! We were a bit gutted being late, but after our nerve frazzling journey, we got another brief soon after and were on our way. The car was a Caterham superlight 1.6 with less that 1000 miles on the clock. To say the least we were anxious not to prang it!
We went round the track a few times with our instructor showing lines, braking points etc and then were let loose on our own! It was absolutely awesome fun, we grinned and grinned, during and after the session, the odd moment notwithstanding. The book-a-track folk (in fact everyone we came across) were really helpful and friendly, it seems like everyone was out to do nothing but have a great time. Can't wait til I go again!
Cheers all!!!
