My insurers cover me for track days operated by the ATDO. That sounds very useful, until you discover that MSV aren't members. Nor Donington.

Where's the logic in me being insured to drive round Bedford on an Easytrack day because they're members, but not on an MSV day because they aren't?

And why aren't they members? No-one on the phone seemed to know, or they weren't prepared to say.

So, the ATDO insurance thing isn't anything like as useful as it first appeared. And Competition Car Insurance want £130 per event for cover, which doubles the cost of a day.

Grrrrrrrrrr.

If it's A Manning, they do include MSV, you just have to let them know beforehand. I'd booked the MSV Brands day on 4th June, not realising they weren't ATDO members. Checked with Manning, they confirmed it was covered.

It's good that insurance companies recognise that ATDO membership is a good thing for the safety of the drivers and the industry. Shame the circuits can't agree that it's a good thing and sign up.

And for the record, Easytrack are NOT ATDO members.

But you'll be covered on one of the infamous Knockhill hot hatch days - Knockhill is an ATDO member!!!

I haven't checked the list recently... but I don't think Knockhill are now members and I do think MSV are.

It's not "what's the point of so and so not being members", it's "does so and so qualify to be a member?" If they don't run according to what ATDO consider safe practice they can't join and insurers may notice a higher claims rate amongst non-member organisers and adjust their premiums accordingly.

Nope.

(Unless their own list is out of date.)

I rang Bedford, they told me they didn't know and to call Brands Hatch and they said "no".

Last time I looked at the list I'm pretty sure MSV were on it, that was about 6-9months ago, I'm with A Manning also so will have to check with them before hand and/or choose my track days more carefully!
