For racing you want the latest SNELL certification (SA 2005). I use a Stand21 Double Duty (swappable peak or visor for single-seater/kart or tintops) - not cheap, but very light and versatile.

Not sure about road use (bikes etc).

Buy the best you can afford.

Arai GP5 is a very popular choice, available from Demon Tweeks or Grand Prix Racewear.

second that i use a GP5 arai, its very comfortable, try GPR they are very helpful, worthwhile going to try a few brands on as they all different slightly, think more of comfort/fit than how much you will spend. you may be lucky and get a 100 quid helmet that fits nice, or may be not.

LA - if you're in the States then you can save some money (or spend it on a better lid). We bought back a Bell for my Dad but best to check the Blue Book for equivalent standards. We used saferacer.com btw.

Thanks, Chris. I'm looking around here before coming back home. Prices are cheaper now it's two dollars to the pound. (Petrol is now $3.50 - on its way up to the $5 gallon! - It was $1.50 only a few years ago.)

Ha ha, I was living in NYC a couple of years back and don't they moan when the petrol goes up!

What are you intending to use the helmet for, if racing, as before, be careful to check that the helmet will confirm to the required UK standards - I'm 99% sure Snell is recognised but best be sure.

Other tip, get a helmet bag so you can bring back on a flight without having to use the box - always a giveaway for customs

Make sure you try your helmet on. Different makes suit different shapes of head.
