SWMBO got the not-very-subtle hints I dropped about my birthday pressie, so I'm at Dalton Barracks next Friday trying to wear my tires out

Anyone else coming to play?

@mikee - Run as a total loss system, bring jump leads and recharge between runs

@Flyin banana - certainly say Hi! Come for a ride! I'll be acting as mobile chicaine in my green E36 325 saloon, so shouldn't be too scary

Yup - An excellant day.

Mine are at: www.pbase.com/byker28i/abingdonmay07

Sorry didn't take many of cars other than our TVR's but there's a few of the Evo, Lotii, Porsche GT3 RS etc.

Top play to the lads who turned up with the ratty 1.4d Nova. With the cost of the car and the trackday split amongst them, that was a great cheap day out.

Had great fun today, even overtook a couple of cars! Clocked up well over 100 miles on the track which is not bad for a 157k mile car Driving standards were (mostly) high, with everyone letting everyone else have a good day. I did find my gearing just a little bit out for the track: approaching several corners I was hitting the limiter in 2nd or 3rd without really time to change up to get any use from it before braking again. And then tip-toeing through the chicaines..... the BMW is a big car to guide through the cones they set out; even more so once I'd had a ride in Mike's Caterham which could change lines or go sideways between them with no trouble!

Looks like my brakes have survived a track day for once (despite early smoke!) and my tires hardly seem to have worn at all (so no excuse to go for 17"s yet ).

I'd like to thank both Mike and Rob for taking me for a .....spin..... in their cars

A few pics here of the carpark to give a flavour of the day

Nope, didn't happen upon him. I got the orange K reg Caterham (clone?) which was being driven very slowly (and I think broke at the main straight chicaine eventually) and the white, caged, Swift (which I think I was really faster than, instead of having a very novice/nervous driver).

Funny thing is, I just don't care about all those people whoosing past me, I'm still having great fun at my/my car's pace

It was my first MSE track day, and have say it was a good one too Very well managed, and great track manners. Good fun track for me to learn my car (had it only 3 months), and to realise my shortcomings! Will definitely book Abingdon/MSE again.

PS. I was in the blue lotus exige. Apologises if I didn't speak to many people, but I was a tad shy, especially seeing everyone milling around in groups.

I find a good ice breaker is to go and ask about the cars. Everyone likes to talk about their cars

Was a great day off work. I was invited along to Abingdon for a ride in a Caterham. I got many rides and so I'd just like to say a big thanks to everyone who offered me a ride in their cars.

It was my first time to Abingdon and I would happily go again.

The open pit was a friendly place and everyone was willing to chat and answer questions. The rain kept off and I got some good rides and photos.
