Anglesey going good to firm

News update from Anglesey Circuit

The final track surface for the completely redeveloped Anglesey circuit will be laid over the next 10 days as work continues on schedule for the opening race meeting on 26/27 May.

Contractors will start laying the final 'wearing course' on 8 May and will take between four and six days to complete the work. The new circuit will feature a 12-metre wide track and the owners promise a surface ‘at least the equal’ of leading UK venues.

"When that is done, aside from painting white lines, the circuit will be operational", says circuit operations director Richard Peacock.

The laying of the final surface fits well into the schedule ahead of the opening race meeting when the BRSCC runs a two-day meeting on the 1.55-mile coastal circuit on 26/27 May. The circuit licence will allow 32 cars to start on the spectacular coastal circuit, one of four track variations now available.

Ahead of that race meeting will be two days of general testing on the coastal circuit. Anyone wishing to book for testing on Thursday 24 May or Friday 25 May, should call the circuit office on 01407 840253 or download a booking form at www.angleseycircuit.com. Testing must be paid for by 18 May.

hmmm

It may be on schedule for the first race meeting, but this week the circuit cancelled a track day and two sprint meetings scheduled for mid May.

Agreed. I was supposed to be attending Anglesey for a trackday on the 12th May, but it was cancelled late last week. The reason given was that the track wouldn't be ready. The kicker is that the next available date is November

Circuit days are there in early July with some spaces left. HTH.

This is all deeply ironic, given that two rounds of the TVRCC Speed Championship (and presumably many other Championships), due to take place on the 19th/20th May, have just been cancelled because the track isn't going to be ready. I reckon this is going to cost the island quite a bit in lost revenue (150 entrants B&B, fuel, meals, beer, entry fees, etc., etc., etc.) The B&B we were booked into has had 4 people cancel simultaneously. Fortunately, they've been kind enough to return our deposit.

Good to firm? Yeah. Right.

(And this on top of the closure of Longcross and the cancellation of the sprint there on the 14th July. Grrrrrrr.)

We're booked in on a track day there for the 18th June.

However being a Highways Engineer Im aware that a newly laid surface does not reach its proper skid resistance until it is well used. (You may have noticed temporary slippery road signs on newly laid roads)

Just hope its well run in by then!

I'm there doing a double header on the 15th & 16th June doing 2 different circuits, really looking forward to it new tarmac or not, just so long as it doesn't bloody rain! I don't suppose all this expenditure includes a shiny new pit complex with garages?

Don't worry, I'll make sure it's properly run in & christened as we're there marshalling on the Bank Holiday weekend at the end of May for two days of club racing with BRSCC. Any particular corner you want us to leave oil on?
