Help me decide which car to track!
Discussion
Hi,
I really want to have a dabble with trackdays. Question is what car to use?
My everyday car is a pretty much standard Elise S1. But I've had sitting in my garage for the last 6 months a pretty mint 91 Eunos Roadster (MX5).
I have been meaning to get around to selling the Eunos, but haven't quite got there yet
Now, as I'm not going to be doing too many trackdays a year (maybe 3 or 4) do I risk my everyday Elise on the track and sell the Eunos.
Or do I set about making the Eunos more track focussed ie. strip the leather interior out, the aircon, all the ally and chrome tat (I could probably get rid of all this on Fleabay) and make that more of a road-legal track car? It has the LSD and lowered (probably too low) suspension already.
I know the Elise would probably be quicker (or at least feel quicker) on the track, but worst case, I would be gutted if it were damaged or worst, written off. Yes I know you can insure it but at £120 per event plus some ridiculous excess, it would still leave me seriously out of pocket if the worst happened.
I can think of the Eunos as more of a disposable item. Also, if I got bored of the Eunos, do you reckon it would still have a decent resale value sold as a "trackday car" rather than a normal tidy road car?

The Elise would be the obvious choice but if it's your everday pride and joy why risk it when you've got the perfect slag in the garage, RWD, LSD, low weight, low ride height, enough power for fun and they always handled well out of the box, seems like you can't go wrong.
If you don't know already www.mx5parts.co.uk and www.mx5mad.co.uk are good places for go faster & stop faster parts.

No, the answer is very easy, the obvious choice for what you want to do, is the Elise, .... So use that, and sell me the Eunos cheap!!!

The man is right
Book an event, rope in a mate and bring them both. Then choose.
Good on line name by the way... quite a lot to live up to though...

use the MX5, i bought mine last year to do 2 days at spa with GTDC as i didnt want to cane the engine on the race car. brilliant fun reliable, bullet proof, feels great when you corner as quick as something exotic in such a humble thing. i dont want to sell mine now, which was the plan.
