Anyone here going to Brands Hatch Tuesday 3rd April for an evening Blatt around the Indy circuit 5.30 till 8 £99 ? ok, ok so it's only the Indy circuit but it'll be the perfect season opener and a chance to give the beast a shakedown plus you still get Paddock Hill bend thats got be worth the admission by it's self ? 2 1/2 Hrs Open pit for £99 with minimal time off work if any, has to be good value

I want to go, but only to take photos. My dad says he won't take me there, so will have to ask my older brother... sister passed test yesterday but not allowed on motorways yet!

If I do go, I'll look out for you

I'm going, should be a lot of fun! Never driven the circuit and always wanted to. I've booked instruction, seemed cheap at £25. There is another thread about this somewhere...

I may be there on the evening session on the 18th April as some mates are going. However driving the car last night I think my clutch is slipping so I may have to just spectate .

What is the tyre ware rate at Brands like?

The surface is kinder than most airfield circuits, but Indy is relatively short and can be tough on brakes and tyres as you are always turning. If your tyres are marginal, remember they will be worse after you have tracked and you still have to get home legally.

go to www.motorsportvision.co.uk look up trackdays-brands etc........they prefer if you book a few days before on the net or by phone, plus when they have the number they need to fill the places available, you then go on to a waiting list, no certainty to drive though.

You will need a helmet (or hire a manky one there) and take your driving licence along.

The description of the trackday implied it was more suitable to advance track day participants, it may not be the best one to start out on.
It is a relatively short time on track and people will try to be on it!

Brands do quite a few novice days, either morning, afternoon or evening....you may find one of these an easier introduction to trackdays.

Even if you don't book the session, maybe worth going along to spectate, take a few passenger rides and get the idea of how things work.

Thanks clubsport.

This would be my first track day in my own car although ive done brands twice before from 'red letter day' gifts...

2 and a half hours track time seem like quite a bit to me.

Can this be continuous track time or do you have to come in every so often?

Cheers

No disrespect mate, but you really need to go along and get the way it's done......it is called open pit lane....this means that for the 2 1/2 hour period you can go and go on to the track as you please....obvioulsy barring hold ups, when flags are waved to retrieve punters from the kitty litter etc...

You will find that a normal road car will be all over the shop after 15 mins,,,,you run the risk of standard dot 4 brake fluid boiling, brakes fading or tyres being at the wrong pressures for control, due to heat cycles.

Best idea is go out for a few laps, come in and check the car over, don't use handbrake on hot discs......then go out for 15-20 min stints, coming in to let the car and indeed yourself cool down befor going out again.

2 1/2 hours is not an unreasonable ammount of tracktime available, in reality you have to halve that really for the time you are likely to spend on track.....also bear in mind the car will drink fuel at a rate you are unlikely to experience driving on the road.

Yeh...it's quite tough on the old motor/Tyres...I'll be planning it something along the lines of 5x20mins on Track, 5x10mins off but of course my car is set up for that sort of useage (20 mins on track time will include a couple of warm up laps & a couple of cool down laps at the begining & end of each self timed session), I don't like to much down time as your tyres start to go off then your forever messing with the tyre pressures or having to take too much time getting them back up to temperature mind you though once you get chatting to yer pals get a cup of coffee etc all the planning will probably go out the window plus I'll be messing with the new Dogcam setup, but if your reasonably local just pop along for a looksie it'll be an absolute blast

Dunno, but now we can start a "who's going on the 18th?" one instead. Unfortunatly i'm not driving, but I'm going along to be an instructor for my 2 novice friends. Will be a chance to try and blag a few rides in stuff as well. I've always wanted a ride in a Radical if anyone's bringing one .

I went, great fun too. Black flag for tyre noise but hard to avoid if you're not trying. Lots of full race cars there which begs the question track day or testing day!!!! Anyway passed loads of them in my standard E39 M5 looking forward to the next one.
