Just emailed them re availability for a visit in May and recieved a reply with instructions to send them my credit card details via email or fax. Don't feel very comfortable emailing them and they don't have an on-line booking service. Anyone else found this? Is it safe?

BTW I can't really phone them as a long satelite delay combined with the language barrier will probably just lead to more confusion.

Any Ideas?

Had the same with another Guest House, think they just want the number in case you cancel last minute and they take a fee for it. Didn't have any problem when I did it, think its just normal practice nowadays. Its no different to phoning them up and them writing it down on a piece of paper and then leaving it on their desk !!

I have stayed there many times with this arrangement. They are lovely people running the hotel, very friendly and trustworthy in my experience.

They could spend a bit on technology to help, but the rooms are always well prepared and the bar food is good.

Its quite different to phoning it in. Most small businesses haven't a clue how to keep their PC secure so having credit card details sitting around forever in their mailbox puts it at risk of being harvested by email worms / virus / whatever. I'm not concerned about dishonesty on the part of the employees, their competance in safeguarding your details on their PC is another matter...

Going to the Ring later in the year, different hotel (Blaue Ecke), but just phoned with CC details to confirm booking.

I'd be amazed if any of the Adenau hotels didn't have an English-speaking receptionist.

Oh, sorry, just looked at your profile. From Newcastle. OK, there might be a problem...
