Just looking into replacing my rear Tyres on my 968, it is currently running Avon ZZ1's (Which are rubbish in the Wet), I have ZZ3's on the front which seem to perform ok in the Wet and Dry, I have asked this Question elsewhere and the Majority of responses have been F1's, although I did get one response telling me to go for the ZZ3's, so I thought I would post the Q on the Track Day Forum.

As I have ZZ3's on the Front I am tempted by them on the rear but having experience of ZZ1's on the rear puts me off slightly..... Have the ZZ3's improved that much over ZZ1's??

So thoughts on Eagle F1's v Avon ZZ3's would be much appreciated, the size is 255/40/17, or what Alternatives?? Use for the car = 80-90% Road use and 10-20% Track use..

We use Dunlop Dirazza 02's on our 968CS.

Not that that answers your question!

I run Eagle F1's on my mk2 Golf track car as wets, and Avon ZZ3's on my mk4 daily driver.

I'd say the F1's out perform the Avons but don't last as long. Both a very good tyre IMO.

Thanks for your info, I'm not too worried about the life of the Tyre, the car is a weekend toy, so therefore if I get 15k out of the rear tyres then there going to last 2-3 years, I do have the F1's on the front of my Skoda and find them to be pretty good but thats a completley different car.

Do you think it is going to be an issue mixing the Front / Rear Tyres? I assume not as I have the ZZ3's on the front and ZZ1's on the back at the moment which is pretty much mixing!

I assume the above mentioned Dunlops are track tyres? (Road Legal?)...

The Dunlops are road legal.

F1's will not last all that long on a track car unless it's very light.
They're quite sticky, and with that comes the fact that on track on a warm day they can basically start to melt.
In the wet they're ok, but there are better road tyres for the job imo. Different car's get different results with various tyres. I've noticed my GTR is much nicer on 452 falkens than F1's, but there's other cars which are quite the opposite. If it's for repeated track use i'd invest in a set of Dunlop DO2's or, R888's which are my preferred tyre.
These are both road legal semi race tyres, and resemble a cut slick more than a regular road tyre.
With that comes the fact they are often more susceptible to aquaplaning in standing water.

Personally i'd avoid avons, one of many tyres that fall into the "Ditchfinder" or "Widowmaker" category for me. But again i suppose it depends on the car they're employed on.

My recomendation would be a set of 452 Falkens for the really rainy days, and R888's for everything else.

Thanks for your replies, I am after a road tyre, that will work on track when needed, bearing in mind this is only 4-5 track days a year maximum....

Speaking to my mate the other day he recommended the Toyo Proxes T1-R's, he has these on his Subaru STi and highly recommends them, what are peoples thoughts? How do they compare to the Goodyear?? I have gone away from the Avons at the moment....

Much of a muchness, T1-R vs F1 argument comes up on all the forums i visit regularly, and it's always about a 50/50 split give or take. Personally i prefer the toyo's
