track-club offers driving days

Fun tasters for track hire fleet

Lotus Elise
Lotus Elise
Track-club has announced a range of taster events offering track day and driving enthusiasts an opportunity to drive some of the club's fleet and to meet the team and discuss memberships.

The company targets these events at those considering track-club membership as the fee is fully refundable against a membership plan, but the days are also open to those who fancy a day out with plenty of driving around some of the UK’s best circuits.

Participants will generally spend about two hours over the course of the day driving two or three cars from the company's fleet as well as experiencing fast laps from the instructors on hand.

Circuits include Silverstone, Rockingham, Donington and Bedford Autodrome with a number of dates available.

track-club dates
Date Venue Price
Saturday 17 February Rockingham International £275
Saturday 24 February Bedford Autodrome £275
Saturday 10 March Silverstone GP £295
Sunday 18 March Donington National £275
Monday 9 April (Bank Holiday) Bedford Autodrome £295

Each day will typically start with a sign on and track briefing at 0800 and driving will close between 1600 and 1700. Cars in use will vary according to the event but will generally include:

  • Lotus Exige S2
  • Lotus Elise S2
  • RenaultSport Spider Cup
  • Ariel Atom (probably wait for the April event!)
  • RenaultSport Clio 182 Cup
  • Caterham Roadsport B
  • RenaultSport Spider Cup

The club's Caterham CSR 260 and Palmer JP1-RS are also likely to be on hand at some of these events for fast laps and optional driving sessions.

Track-club stressed that these are not your typical airfield Red Letter type days: the cars are not restricted, you will not have an instructor on board for all of your sessions and you will be in the car for over 90 minutes throughout the day.

Also on hand will be a driving simulator to keep you in the right frame of mind when you’re out of the car -- as long, said the company, that you realise that what can be done on a PlayStation can’t always be applied to real life...

track-club will provide all helmets, intercoms and tuition and will be on hand to discuss membership, exclusive and shared car hire and any track day and driving questions that you may have.

Is April 19th a Bank Holiday? I thought it was April 9th.

You're right - should be 9 April. (the club got it wrong!). I've now changed it.

Do you NEED any more discount - you're paying at most 1/2 price for over 90mins in-car, which is arguably at least 50% of the track-time you'd get on a typical open-pit day (assuming 40% usage over 7hrs of track-time).

In all honesty they're pretty good prices at good circuits...I'm quite tempted, esp. as you get it refunded if you take a year's subscription out.

I'd say that's better than good - as an example April 9th is actually a Gold Track open pitlane event and they're charging £249 for the day. £295 for 90+ minutes of track time in someone else's car, a bit of tuition, and a "hot lap" ride or two thrown in looks like an absolute steal to me :-)

You've partly answered one of my questions, which was 'is this a track-club exclusive or who's running it and how many cars will be there?'

Well, that's just the BH Monday event which I recognised because I'm on Melindi's mailing list. the other dates don't appear to correspond so no idea who they're running them with. Can't imagine they'd be exclusive as with only half-a-dozen or so cars the cost would be prohibitive.

I've looked at the website and can't see any details about the 2007 events. Where on the site are they? and how can I book?

All of our taster events, tuition days and corporate events are run as part of a 'normal' track event but track day companies with an excellent reputation and who in our opinion operate the best run events in the UK. These particular taster days are being run in conjunction with Gold Track, BookaTrack and Circuit Days.

If anyone also wants to track their own car for a half day or limited number of sessions when not in a track-club car this can also be arranged at a small additional cost.

Just to resurrect this as there appears to be an error in the article (and on Stephens website).

Just checked, and 10th March at Silverstone is the National Circuit, not the GP (1.6 mile 'triangle' not 3.something mile full-monty). And it's a 'Circuit Days' day with 70 cars in attendance (which over 1.6 miles will mean a crowded circuit or limited track-time or both).

Plus Stephen said to me over the phone a month or so ago that he only uses BaT and Goldtrack... confused I've left an e-mail for him to contact me, and tried his phone number, but so far no response. Will let you all know when I get an answer.

Edit: Just had response from Stephen. Sounds like he got the wrong info in the first place, and date has been cancelled.
