Towing with an A-Frame - Legal??
Discussion
you might want to try SP&L where the legal-eagles are! That's a long way for a tow! Not all that good for the car being towed! I always prefer a trailer anyway as you have got something to get your track car back on should you decide to rearrange the layout of the suspension or bodywork!

I wouldn't use an a-frame to be honest. Why not hire a cheap 4 wheeler, these guys price for the clubman enthusiast www.cheaptrailerhire.co.uk/
As far as I'm aware, a car towed on an A frame is classified as a trailer in the eyes of the law (hence you need a trailer board with reg plate). So what governs the legality is the maximum permissable weight for an unbraked trailer. I don't know this in detail but I think this maximum permissable weight for an unbraked trailer in the UK is 760kg, which is under the GVW of any car available in the UK - and this makes it illegal except for emergency purposes. AA / RAC get around this on the emergency loophole, but it would be a bit risky driving to & from the 'Ring on that basis, especially as the rules are probably different in other countries.
You could use a towing dolly instead as this is braked and not subject to the rules. A dolly is much bulkier but still less though than a trailer.
