Hi, new member here.
Have attended my first Trackday along with many lotus owners at Oulton on 9th Dec and loved it. Well run day and although the track was greasy not too many offs. Problem I have is I wish to use two tracks mainly Oulton and Donnington. I am just about within noise limits at Oulton and got a reading of 104DB @ 0.5m 45 degrees from exhaust at 3/4 revs. My concern is how will this fair at Donnington as they use a drive by system I believe.
I have a new group N exhuast on a Pug 205 Mi16 with twin 45 delorto's. Is there any way I can get a test noise check carried out with there systems without commiting best part of £150 for a day that I may get black flagged for noise? Do thye do short test sessions or is it simply a case of pays your money and takes your chance?

I`m new to trackdays myself.

IIRC Donny is 98 DB`s so u`r not going to pass, mines was 95 db`s at oulton so mines going to be close.

I was at Oulton on the 9th december doing a couple of pax rides, and there was plenty of red flags and got a pic of an elise who got it all wrong.

Adrian, Ask Donnington if they will do a test for you on a day when the track is being used for a track day. Give them a call, you might be able to persuade them to do a static test. The Marshals are normally quite helpfull and I am sure will advise you if you will be ok on track. If not you need to get a decent silencer and maybe even lift off or short shift as you pass the on track sensors. Having said that IMO the noise limit for track days at Donnington is a joke!! bearing in mind the track is on the flight path at the end of the airport runway IMO the noise from the planes is way above 98db!

If Oulton have already measured you at 104dB then you'll have to do unrestricted noise days at Donington. Plenty of them about. We do them and a lot of the other good organisers do too.

You will not really know without actually going out on the track at Donnington. There is no easy correlation between static noise tests and driveby noise requirements. You can do as someone else suggested that is to ask the marshalls if you can have a run round.

Alternatively, you can take just your chances. You'll get a warning before they send you home, in which case you just need to take it easy as you go past the microphones on track.

The guys at donington are very fair about the noise but they have to run a strict 98db on their quiet days thanks to the local council!! The noise test is a drive buy so even if you do have a static test it could vary on a drive buy, it depends on all sorts of things including weather and wind conditions. The good thing is that a drive buy test registers quite a lot lower than a static so will work in your favour. I suggest that you look at the donington website www.donington-park.co.uk go to the track day section and look up the dates for TRACK ZONE, these are doningtons own days and if you turn up on one of them provided they're not full they will let you pay for one session only, that way you will find out for definate! It's well worth a try as It's a fantastic circuit weather your in a car or on a bike.

my old race car was 104db on a static test at brands but has been used preiously at donnignton on various trackdays no prob's with the drive by whats so ever - so all may not be lost.
