I assume you mean the overtake down the hill right at the end. Not too bad, could've been worse with a lower closing speed, but only if the overtakee lost it. I'd probably grumble about it if it happened to me but i'd have forgotten it a few corners later.

Fair enough.

I don't have many track days under my belt but the ones I've done have always frowned heavily on moves like that i.e. overtaking uninvited whilst braking hard for a bend.

He'd finished the overtake by hte time they got into the braking zone, it's late for that next left.

Nothing wrong with that considering silver car was braking on the apex of the right hander and could have lost it causing a collision.

It also sometimes depends on how the other driver has acted when you've coming across them before. When driving a car thats significantly quicker than some others on track you often come up behind the same people time and time again, so you get to know how they drive, how competent / observent they are, and where they're comfortable letting you by. Also its hard to tell from the video but its possible the MX5 gave him a quick wave by just before the braking area, and braked a bit earlier to allow the pass.

Having said that, and having driven Oulton before, the corner they're approaching has a weird camber on entry which tries to throw you out to the outside especially if you enter it off-line, so although there's nothing on that video that I found especially bad, I think I probably would have held back personally.

The top of the corner on the run into cascades isn't a braking area. I'd have felt quite happy going past as there is no possibility of the car moving over to the left at that point to take the corner anyway.

Where is the MR2?

The camera car is a Focus ST which overtakes an MX-5.

Imperfect, granted. But the closing speed and separation appear sufficiently different not to cause the MX5 any issues, which is what matters.

Doesnt look to bad to me, mx is right over out the way, and the Focus juts goes under him.As long as mx5 was using his mirrors not a problem. Not perfect, but hey.

All the days I do, it is stressed no overtaking in the braking areas, but sometimes you have to.As long as its safe enough.

The crest before Cascades where the MX5 starts to brake is effectively "straight" so overtaking on the left at this point is within the rules. The braking point for cascades, the next left hander is much further down so if someone is braking that early there's plenty of time for a pass.

Having said all that it's not an ideal place to pass. The focus was in completely the wrong place to take cascades properly so he's screwed his next corner up and just after cascades is the longest straight on the circuit where he would have easily passed the MX% without the "rudeness"

That's quite tight, and he's on the wrong side to hit the apex properly - would more than likely hold up the MX5 through the bend. I almost span earlier in the day on the way out after taking a similar line (although it was a hell of a lot wetter in the morning).

It would have looked a lot worse if you had seen them through the entire bend. As mentioned above there is a nice long straight afterwards where overtaking would have been a piece of cake.

It looks to me like the Mazda gave way. Nothing wrong at all IMO.

Judging by the speed the film car caught up to the MX5 out of Old Hall and into Dentons Kink, it looked to me the MX5 driver was dithering about deciding where to let the film car pass, and when the decision was made, which looked mutual, they were both already into Cascades.
Looked fairly normal stuff, no problems.
