Hi,
I recently received £300 in vouchers for castle coombe driving experiences. I have no track experience and i am not sure whether i should do one of the cheaper experiences and a track day or do the full £315 experience. I would be able to afford a track day if i really enjoyed it swell but being a student i don't want to waste my money and if the experiences are bad (heard bad things about lambo/ferrari style ones but these seem more based towards proper driving and less the image of the vehicles). So if anyone has any experience or knowledge I'd be grateful for your advice!

Thanks
Woody

The Combe one is pretty honest about what you get - if you look on the website it tells you the number of laps in each...

IIRC the combo ones are the best value, but also the most expensive!

The Castle Combe Driving packages are great.....I took 12 of the guys from work there on the £155 ish one that you drive the Focus then Formula Ford. It was excellent, although it seemed over far too soon, but then I'm used to doing a lot more laps.

As for a trackday...what would you use? You've only a smallish car yourself and Combe is without a doubt a power circuit. You would have fun, but you could kill your car as you will be slowing down from some pretty high speeds.

They do do a very good offer where you get to drive the scoobs and the lotus....go for it, you're playing in someone elses car for a start You will get to experience Combe at its best....(fast!) and you will have an instructor with you for most of the time giving you tips!

I've done the racing school a number of times and its flippen excellent,if i were you i'd go for the most expensive option as you will get far more track time and drive all the cars.I f you've never driven a fford before that's just something else to be honest even though last year i only drove the lotus and the scooby both which handled superbly and with the instructor pointing out the correct lines it felt so good to get it right,si if i had 300 quid i'd do the most expensive one i could afford with the cash the more you pay the better the package........hope you enjoy it as much as i did

Yeah, Blow the lot on the one day and make it extra special, If it was me I'd make sure I get a run in the Scoobies and the Elise's, but the FF's are so much fun!

it depends on what you want to get out of it, but for me the times I have done the FF driving at combe, it's been very frustrating. Just a few laps and a very low rev limit. That's understandable as they are pretty easy to get wrong.

So when I did it as a complete track novice the FF was so unfamiliar that I'd barely started to get used to it before having to finish.

When I did it as a more experienced track driver, I'd barely got the tyres starting to work when I had to come off.

YMMV though!

They have no rev limiters at Combe!
I did the Formula 1st things at Silverstone (like FF's but the gear stick is on the other side, and they look a but crap!, took me 30 seconds to get the hang of it, the only way you'll have problems is if you have something German driven by computers!!!

Ok, not limiters, but tell-tales and dire warnings! They certainly are not keen on you giving large! It's not a criticism, just that I am not sure it makes for the best fun. Novel, but like much of the car experience type things, very frustrating.

It's better fun in my view to stay in one car and get to learn it and the circuit. Just depends on what you want.
