When I bought my race suit, I took all of my measurements (chest, arms, waist etc etc) and nearly all were in the Medium size.

Then when I did my full height it put me into XXL, the thing is, it's alright in length but it looks like a tent around my waist and chest.

I'd like to take it to a seemstress (sp) or something and get it taken in a bit at the sides but I don't know if this would affect it because of the Nomex and fireproof elements.

Can anyone shed any light on the subject.

Thanks in advance,

Graham

Hi there, they can be adjusted if you take it to a good tailor. You may have to ring around though and ask them if they will do it and have the right materials etc. I got a hand me down fire-proof suit from a friend for a lotus meet not so long ago, which it was a bit small around the hips. So got them to match the material and add a strip down the sides. Fits like a glove In your case your only shortening it down the sides it seems (pun not intended) so only expense is the addition of cotton or similar. There are many suit makers who do custom fits as I looked on the net a while back, but were a little pricy.
Good luck

Make sure they use a Nomex thread to stitch it up (or fireproof anyway). Not much point in having a fireproof suit if the stitches melt wide open...

Cheers SNE, that was my main worry, if this didn't matter I'd sort something out myself.

Kylie, thanks, do you have a rough idea of price so I can start looking round and judging who's over-priced and who's cheap.

Many Thanks,

Graham

Ah, but if you left the original stitching in place and just put another seam in to make it smaller, you'd have some sort of fire-safety-expando-suit

In the event of fire, the suit would revert to its original size, thus giving extra freedom to exit the car safely, and would offer extra space for any body fluids that might have accumulated in the suit as a result of said fire. Probably worth patenting the whole idea.

Hi I paid a guy $45.00 NZD or say $15.00 euros. That is for the addition of materials and labour, so you should be asking much much less. Hope it gives you an idea.

So you probably look a bit like Jacques Villeneuve then!

Cheers Kylie, that's the sort of price I'm looking at No doubt over here it'll cost 10 times more, everything else seems to

Podie - More like Michael Schumacher apparently.

Cheers MrsD, I may give them a ring and see if they can take the sides in a bit, at least they'll have all the right materials.
