Hi guys,
I have a new Boxster 2.7L, sometimes when firing up from cold I get a puff of smoke from the exhaust.Am I right in saying that because the BOXER engines are horizontally opposed a small amount of petrol lays in the cylinders and is burnt off when fired up?Has anyone experienced this? Your comments would be welcome.

Hi there .... you might get a bit better feedback if you post in the "engines" or "general gassing" section

Greyish blue, white or black smoke? Petrol is black, oil is blue generally. Ask your dealer if you still have it under warratny.

the smoke on start up is pretty normal for porsche 'boxer' engines, usually down to oil, more likely if been standing for some time, it just finds its way down and into cylinder heads....nothing to worry about unless (a) its like an oilfield being torched (b) you are 'using' oil between services
