Hi.Im thinking of using an xr2i for a track car.I need to insure it for use on the road and as i will be going to the ring in it i want to get proper insurance to cover me out there as well as tracks in the uk.Does anyone know or have experiance of companys that can cover me on the above. The car would be a second vehicle with no ncb,my 9 years ncb is used on my other car.I really want to have cover for when i go to the ring to avoid any hassle should the worst happen.Any help, advice or views appreciated.

Try Competition Car Insurance. Not exactly cheap but should cover you.

how much is the car worth? track insurance likely to be very expensive with a high excess. i'd image you are better off just getting a road policy that doesnt specificly exclude the ring or include any oddly phrased get outs like 'derestricted toll roads' etc... dont even bother trying to clarify a point by asking the question direct, they will simply say no.

it'll cost approx £50 per £5,000 cover with cci and you'll have a £5,000 excess. So if you buy 5k cover and do 10k damage, you pay 5 and the ins co pays 5.

It may be different for other models but with my policy with CCI its a 2k excess I seem to recall. That is, however, as part of my annual policy with CCI (4 free TDs) and not as part of the pay as you go track cover.

I renewed with HIC this year specially for their (unlimited) trackday cover. Have a look here:

https://www.hertsinsurance.com/trackdays.p

I ended up with a 500 excess for trackdays.

Thanks for the info everyone. The car is only worth about £600 to £1000.My main concern is going on the ring and causing thousands of pounds of damage to other peoples property. Its given me a few companys to talk to though and find out whats what so thanks again.

Doesnt track day cover normally only cover damage to "your" car??
