Hi guys,
I thought you might find this interesting. I bet a few of you use AON classic car insurance for your pride and joy to take advantage of AON's free track day cover. I took out a policy in August for my E30 M3 Sport Evo and got a quibble-free 15K guaranteed value. Even Nurburgring track days are covered without additional charge.
However, I rang AON today as a matter of routine prior to the Easytrack event at Oulton Park this weekend, purely to inform them I was going on the event.....those are the rules, and that's fine by me. The rep told me that there was a new £25 charge for track days, and an increase in excess, in my case to £1500, up from £500. I complained that they can't change my terms of contract 6 months on. I spoke to a manager and she agreed, and so I wasn't charged a penny extra and the excess stays at £500.
I must say that I think AON handle customers well. I had cause to complain before, but their staff sorted it out well.
Royal and Sun Alliance provide my insurance policy, and I reckon that next year at renewal time, I will be forced to pay the extra charge that they tried to make me pay today.

I've been with them for about 7 years now and my policy is one of the old ones with reduced excess and no charge, I've always notified them by e-mail about the many trackdays I do and they've never asked for any money. Still bearing in mind your comments, I'll be calling them Monday to confirm!

Sound like a company I'd like to get a quote from, do you have their details?

Jonny,

I’m also insured with Aon as are a number of guys I know. I too was hit with this £25 charge and a 10% car value excess (in my case £2500!). I was also rather annoyed at the change of terms mid-policy however as my documentation states ‘track days on request’, also ss the charge was also being imposed by the underwriter RSA not Aon, I decided to pay up.

At the end of the day £25 per event (not day) is still good-value for track day cover and the service from Aon is top rate.

I am with Sunninghill (Royal & Sun Alliance policy) for my TVR policy. They confirmed to day that track day cover carries no extra charge, just the £1000 excess.

Nurburgring is treated the same as a track day.

I also temporarily added my friend for a day so he is covered on the track day for free.

They have a very friendly service (my renewal isn't until Nov so I am not just saying that to get a discount!).
