Please help, i want to buy a mate a track day asap (his new toy arriving monday). Otherwise I'll next meet him doing 150 side ways in the lane by my house. I live in south wales so somewhere closeish would be a plus. I tried a few places but they dont seem keen this time of year. Any suggestions would be much appriciated. regards matt

Castle Combe or Llandow are closest to S Wales.

You might get more info over on www.wpce.org/forum/index.php? as they run local track days.

p.s. What pub is yours?

Try the usual bookatrack and easytrack, also maybe find a circuit you want to go too and check out their home page?

Only pub I know in Coedypaen is the Carpenters Arms. Haven't been there for years - lovely pub at the top of the reservoir. Will have to pop in soon for a natter as it's only 2-3 mile from me.thumbup

Anglesey (Trac-Mon) may not be exactly local, but the drive there is bound to be absolutely blinding!

If your mate is new to trackdays then I would strongly suggest opting for one of Motorsport Events airfield days www.motorsport-events.co.uk . Well run, loads of room to come off, lots of track time, good tuition and run by Ed and Natasha who are very nice people. They usually have a number of days on airfields just over the Severn bridge crossing and as far as I recall they go throughout the winter. Usually cost £99 for the day or less. These days are a great way to learn the skills needed before trying your hand at a full blown circuit. Pembury is a nice little circuit but there's not many trackdays organised there.

I'd highly recommend a trip to www.llandow.com

It's not an organised trackday but private hire - some days are busy but many are much quieter. Have a chat with them and choose a quiet day. Benefits are:
- Short, so easy to learn
- Some interesting, testing corners
- Empty, or almost empty track so your mate can concentrate on driving rather than his mirror. If there are others there, testing, have a chat with them and make time for each other (you will easily find a day when there's only one or two others there)
- No sessions. Go out when you're ready and there's space on track.
- You can easily drive as well, so you can passenger and tutor (and have a bit of fun yourself)
- Very friendly and helpful

Use Llandow to get experience & control of the car, then consider proper trackdays at Combe and Pembrey for a bit more space.

I've driven round that track when I was competing in sprints, and it is a great track!! Driving down the start finish straight you can see the sea in front of you, then a sweeping uphill right hander....Wheeeeeee.

Actually if I remember correctly the corner is called school, its a double apex right hander, and its downhill in, and uphill out, with a 90 degree right at top of hill. Still Wheeeeeee!

Unfortunately, Trac Mon does not exist in the form that you have known it, .... The last day it operated was 1st October, and on the 2nd the contractors moved in to totally dig up the circuit. That is the bad news, the good news is that the new circuit is scheduled to be finished around the end of May, next year (2007). The new cicuit will have three different configurations, the main one, the GP ( general purpose ) will be 2 miles long, 12 metres wide, a good combination of fast and slower corners, a 10 deg banked corner, superb elevation changes and run off areas to GP2 spec. In other words it has the potential of being the best circuit in the UK. Watch this space.....

Looking forward to trying it out. I am originally from Anglesey - and visit my old Mum there sometimes. So nice to combine a track day with a visit...

Don, where in Anglesey did you live, or should I say where does your Mother live now?? When you experience the new circuit i think you will be more than pleasantly suprised. Keep an eye on www.bookatrack.com early in 2007, I think Jonny will probably organise the first track day there.
