Has anyone been to an Autocar trackday before, how are they run and how much time do you get with the cars that they bring a long?

Yup, booked up a couple of weeks ago. Been to plenty of Autocar days and they always seem to be very well run and attract a generally decent clientel with good driving standards. This is the first time its been an all day event (usual format is Friday evening with tracktime from 5-8pm) so I'm not sure exactly what to expect. I wouldn't expect any more than 1 outlap, 1 flying lap, then an inlap but who know's, maybe there'll be more available given the amount of cars and more time.

This has been the fastest selling AUTOCAR day to date - it is almost booked up and they are looking at doing another.

I'll be there with the Toniq Rs, looking forward to seeing you. Should be a fantastic day, there's some serious kit on display and a fair bit of filming going on as well. Just keeping fingers crossed for acceptable weather, but Bedford has excellent pits... and lots of run off!

Indeed, Bedford is an excellent venue! How many laps will we be getting in the in the Toniq? (I'm looking forward to that one )

We'll be spending as much time out on the circuit as possible, so drop me a line at jim@toniqr.co.uk, and I'll ensure that you get in early. I understand that AUTOCAR may extend the event to 16 / 17 November due to the popularity - the 17th is now nearly full! Are you bringing the NSX... fancy a passenger?

Good stuff, I'll make sure I drop you a mail pre-event. I'll be in the black Z4 Coupe.

I might be there in a silver Cossie Merc.

First proper track day and first time out in this car, and I'm not sure how the 16 year old car is going to cope with track driving yet, so sorry if I hold anyone up!

Looking forward to seeing you - I'd like a nose at the cosworth Merc, I've always had a hankering for one.

It's been confirmed for two days now - 16th and the 17 November. Looks fantastic fun, Bedford's a great venue, and a good place to do your first trackday so I wouldn't be too intimidated.

Looks like we have a 40% chance of their being some showers.

My tyres are down to about 2mm, should a keep my current set and try my level best to destroy them or should I get some new tyres with nice deep treads just in case it rain properly.

If it does shower on the day will the cars dry out the circuit fairly quickly?

Rain=more fun, less danger & much less tyre wear. Lets hope it happenes Either way Bedford is a great circuit with plenty of safe run off and good helpful instructors so I'm positive it'll be a great day no matter what.

agree but too much rain causes standing water and visibility problems at bedford. If it does rain try and wait for most people to go home, then go out on a wet empty circuit.!!

i was a bit disappointed really - i turned up to the signing on and most of the places had been taken. i couldn't drive the radical as it was booked and most of the other cars were passenger rides only; not as described in the advert. Having said that, i was happily suprised by the toniq r (duratec) as it had 10x more turn in grip than our r300. i also got black flagged for noise after chasing one of the atoms, so we had to take it easy after that (less than 6000rpm)! I didnt realise that it was the GT we were going to use - i thought that we were going to be on the west circuit only, so that was a good suprise.

Friday turned out to be far wetter than Thursday with standing water on the track virtually all day which did close the track for half an hour in the morning. The rain never really let up. The briefing in the morning made it clear that given the conditions, descretion was used as to whether drives could be given with that much standing water on the circuit. Thursday saw a lot of people get out both driving and as passengers simply down to the fact that there were fewer cars present.

Sods law that the sun comes out yesterday and today......
