Anyone know about recovery from a track day? I've heard that the RAC will, but others won't.

Sorry but the RAC won't. It's excluded in the small print.

I know someone who fried a piston at Bruntingthorpe proving ground and the RAC came out to pick him up from just outside the entrance...

Then again Bruntingthorpe isn't all that well known, might not get away with it if it was somewhere like Silverstone or Brands

Knew someone that during a lunch break on a track (airfield) day notice the cam belt on his dax had a split it from a stone trapped between the belt and pulley.
Called the AA who came and changed it track side so he continue the rest of the day......now thats what i call service.

I've never had a problem with the RAC collecting people from our trackdays. The AA can be a problem though.

A lot of circuits like Silverstone or proving grounds like Bruntingthorpe have business units on them, just push it and park it outside one of the offices. They aren't to know.

The RAC picked me up from Brands a coupe of months ago no issues at all. Only problem was when calling to request the pick up they didn't know where it was and needed the name of the road the main entrance was on.

Thanks for the info folks. A straw poll seems to come down in favour of the RAC ... which is a shame as I'm in the AA. Best keep the car in good condition then

AA mended my son's (err, my actually he seems to have borrowed it) 911 in a track day car park (electrical gremlin) no bother. He explained that he needed the car to get him home and had no way of getting it towed and they were fine about it.

The RAC recovered me from Castle Combe a couple of years back.

The AA do make the point in thier small print that "trackdays are NOT EXCLUDED"

Green Flag picked me up from Donington once. Mind you, I had managed to get the car to the car park...

I got picked up from Bedford Autodrome by the AA on Saturday. The guy on the phone did have to double check that it would be ok, and when I reassured him that it was a non-competitive event, and the car was a properly taxed road car etc, all was fine.

Simple answer! It is usually up to the patrol man. I was rescued by the AA from Snetterton about 5 years ago in my Ginetta after a race. He was trilled to have a racecar (road registered) on his low loader!

The AA explictly say they will pick up from non-competetive events, such as road rallies (Cannonballs etc.), track-days and such.

So you should be OK staying with them.

Oh no!

Met a friendly AA man ... who explained that track days are usually excluded, though I could ask about it when signing up and there may be an option to add it to the policy. His advice was to contact the RAC, as he thought they were better at covering track days. AARGH!

Sorry huge_ego the AA man may be frindly but is talking Bol**s a quote for the AA's terms and conditions

"18. The AA will not provide service where this is requested in regard to a vehicle which requires service by reason of, or immediately following, participation in any racing, rallying, trials or time-trials, auto test or other motor sports event ("a Motor Sports Event"). However, for the avoidance of doubt, the AA does not consider the following activities to be Motor Sports Events, and thus will provide service to a participating vehicle if properly requested:

"Concours d'elegance" events;
Track test days for road-legal vehicles;
Rallies held exclusively on open public highways where participants are required to comply with all operative speed limits.
"

This can be found on thier web site at www.theaa.co.uk/breakdowncover/join/brejoi010.asp

The aa refused to recover a mates tow car as it had broken in the paddock at mallory.. It was hardly likley to have been on the track as it was a mondeo estate,a nd the race car was on a trailer behind it !!!

having said that a bog standard mondeo was on the track at oulton at the weekend. well it was untill its engine blew and dumped loads of oil at lodge....
