Could somebody please tell me how it works with insurance on trackdays in UK, pricing conditions etc?

I'd speak to Competition Car Insurance, they quote on a sliding scale of cover, (UK) - 0115 941 5255

Personally I gave up track day insurance ages ago, and have almost saved enough money to buy another car.

Well that was also my concept until I parked a 340 R in a concrete wall!

Trust me that wasnt cheap!

I haven't seen a schedule of costs for our trackdays this year but... I've been told by Competition Car Insurance that premiums are going to rise a lot regardless of claims history!

You could look up Peter Best Insurance and ask what deals, if any, are on offer to non-HPC members. (Or take the High Performance Course, of course!)
