Trackday car hire club track-club has announced that it's replacing the much loved and fun but ageing Mi16 powered Peugeot 205 with one of its spiritual successors, the Renault Clio 182 Cup.

The club said that the Clio Cup had been the planned replacement for some time and was discussed with the club's members. The club had postponed the decision while evaluating the option of a new Clio 197 but in the end decided that the 182 was probably more track-focused than the new Clio, which is bigger and heavier than the outgoing 182 Cup.

The 182 Cup has a slight weight advantage over the standard 182 and a better suspension package and track-club said it believes it will be a popular fleet member. The club has sourced an Inferno Orange 2005 and it will be available to members and track day customers from 20 July.

Stephen Docherty of track-club said that he hoped the new Clio would be another step in enhancing the reliability of the fleet; in the last 12 months the club has added a Caterham CSR260 and replaced its S1 Elise and Exiges with newer S2 variants of the same car. The club's Renault Sport Spider is also currently undergoing significant investment with a full rebuild of the sequential gearbox by Sadev.

Track-club said it plans an open day before the end of the summer so that track car fans and potential members can come and talk track days, cars and do some tyre kicking. We'll bring you the date as soon as we know when it is...
