Want to insure a 50k car for 2.5 hours at Silverstone and I'm getting £265 with 5k excess and max of 30k cover.

My history? Loads & loads of track days & Ring trips in powerful cars over the last 8 years with no incidents.

So this seems poor value.

Is that generally accepted as how much it should be or have others suggestions of a company that doesn't take the p*ss???

It's better value to do more PH / Track-club days at that amount....

Ben, it's standard for competition car insurance (you will be going through egger lawson no doubt). Value of car is critical; a 5k trackslag will be 75 GBP or thereabouts, for two drivers.

It may be worth reinsuring your Cayman with a suitable company that includes trackdays in the road policy. NU does them through Bickley Insurance for about 100 GBP a pop on top of the normal premium, but Anne Manning covers all for free, I believe. If you do lots of track days, pay more for the policy but get the trackdays thrown in perhaps? francisb recently got a good deal insurance wise, I think.

Thanks Dom I'll look into a few of those.

Thing is I live in a high-crime area so the insurance policy I chose was one that looked at personal circumstances rather than postcodes for a more realistic number.

Agree with the above, find a mod/track friendly insurer who will take top-ups. I used to use Green Light, they charged £85 per day with like for like replacement on mods

Replace like for like and is roughly £80, just ring them on the day and they cover me

What about getting 50% value cover - 25k not 50. With your experience it's doubtfull you'd write a car off. I've had a few customers do this on my days with their insurance.

Try Herts Insurance Consultants (HIC - recently bought by Adrian Flux) - 0870 8148 814

My 944 Turbo is insured with them - with trackday cover included. They were the only firm I found who would cover non PCGB trackdays. They also seem happy to cover modifications - just wanted to know the value & extra hp.
