On a superbly organised double trackday session at MonSpa/Hockenheim last week.
Brilliantly done by Guillotine, without hassle, the whole thing was a superb time for loadsa different TVR owners to get together, rap the stone groove and attempt to blast each other into the weeds.
Eating at Rheims on Tuesday lunch and then up to the superb Balmoral hotel at Spa in the evening. Eating and chatting to Steve Gugliemi(Sorry about that, Steve)on the Tuesday night about racing and in particular his success at Tuscan racing and then to have him as advisor whilst going round the Spa track, the following day, in the pouring rain. The conditions certainly dampened my ardour to stick it in at Eau Rouge flat-out but the steadily drying conditions of the day brought smiles to faces and feathered rubber to the tyres. Totally brilliant circuit !
The next day it was over to The Hockenheimring where the sun and dozens of Germans greeted 'Die Englanders' with jaw-drop and many questions about their cars. Following the controlled and demure activities at Spa the track etiquette at Hockers was utterly ballistic to say the least.
55 cars blazing into the first few bends with more lines of hopeful/experienced drivers trying to 'take the inside line' than can be found on any Italian roundabout. Truly, breathtakingly insane. Even the most experienced track masters came back after the first 20 minute session with looks of awe mixed with ear-to-ear grins.
Utterly wonderful.
The track and roadside support offered by Rich and Col of TVR Parts even allowed me to forget about any 'untoward' noises I may have had whilst adopting angles of lean I normally associate with fighter planes.
The return trip included Britcar racing at night on the Saturday and a full day's racing schedule at Spa on the Sunday.
