As the title suggests, got a track day booked shortly and need a lid.

Used to be a biker and am wondering what the differences are between car helmets and bike ones, do they check the BSI numbers at track days?

Thanks for any help.

Never had my helmet checked on a trackday.

Got mine from Demon Thiefs (Tweeks) who have a large range to choose from.

I've never had my lid checked. I bought a bike one from Hein Gerricke.

Non of the trackday's (or indeed test days) I've been on have checked helmets, however I know some organisers do say they must be up MSA Blue Book spec so that means BS 6658 Type A or A/FR, or Snell SA2005

DT have a huge range of helmets, and the guy's there help enormously when it comes to choosing the right one.

Try on as many as are in your price range, it's amazing how different the fits are between different helmets, I had one that was so tight on my forehead i had a headache in the 30sec or so that I had it on for!

Iain

Thanks for your replies, will probably look to buy an open face bike lid-easier to source locally without trailing down to Demon Tweeks.

When you find a hat that fits you and one that you like, it may be worth buying it from www.rallynuts.com
I am a bit biased but they are cheaper than people like Deamon-tweeks and GPR

Milleman. May I be so humble as to suggest that you look at the Peltor range of helmets as used in rallying. For around 260GBP you can get a really nice, lightweight, open faced helmet with removeable peak and the bonus is, if you are using it for trackdays, they come with inbuilt headsets and mikes. Add about another 80 squid and you can get a battery powered Peltor amp.I know you have to buy 2 helmets eventually to use this system, but if you are doing trackdays in an open car these are invaluable for hearing your passenger screaming in terror as you do eau rouge at 200kph and is well worth it to hear their anguish in real time.
As Iain said, it is imperative to try before you buy as no 2 helmets seem to be the same size and the sizing system seems to be fairly irrelevent.
Hope this helps.
Rgds Tim.
