How do they measure DB level at the ring, ie. at what distance is the meter held and RPM?

They don't do an actual test with a dB meter, so I guess if they hear something that sounds too loud going through the entry barrier or in the car park they then check.

Just take it easy in the car park and away from the barriers and you should be fine, from what I read/hear they target people who think it's clever to sit in the car park revving away.

I've been twice and never seen them testing anything

I've seen them testing.

Essentially, if something sounds particularly noisy as it leaves the barriers, or in the car park they might come and test with their decibel metres.

I think it's a 98db limit.

So if you're car's particularly noisy, don't draw attention to yourself and you'll probably be ok. And the guys doing the tests (or the one I saw at least), wanted the car to pass, and as it was on the limit (or slightly over) we was happy to let it pass.

No testing last week. There was an F40 with a non standard exhuast and that was let out a number of times so I'm sure you will be ok.

They most certainly do test wit a dB meter, and I've seen it in use more often this year than in the past. They seem to have different interpretations as to just how far it should be from the exhaust as well. One of the lads seemed to think it needed to be very close indeed...

Not much worse than to be sent packing over a loud exhaust, especially if one has travelled a fair distance.

Was there last weekend, saw several bikes being tested. They stopped them at the barriers, took them off to one side and held a DB meter at about 1m away.
No cars (that I saw) were checked, and some of them were LOUD!! (one 911 RS nearly made my ears bleed).
My Cerbera isn't exactly quite and no one batted an eyelid.
I was talking to someone who has been going for the last 10 years. He said that cars are pretty much OK unless there back box falls off, just don't sit and rev in the car parks and you'll be OK.
