Female-only car control courses
Need a day away from the blokes? Try this.
If you're after car control tuition and are female, then head for Car Limits' latest course.
Organiser Emma Bennett said she has organised "a few different days to get like minded women behind the wheels of their cars, and have some tuition at North Weald airfield, Essex (M11 Junction 7) with Andrew Walsh from CarLimits.com. It doesn't matter what car you're in, everyone is welcome. Andrew teaches anything from Minis to McLarens so he'll be quite at home with whatever you bring."
Training Days
There are four-person training days organised for 26 May 2006 and 19 July 2006, costing £180 per person for which you get tuition from 9am to 4pm with time for lunch.
On a training day you will learn various driving techniques bespoke to your needs and ability allowing you to get the most out of the car and yourself. You'll be taught about the use of the controls (there’s more to it than you thought!), about smooth acceleration, modulated braking, steering, trailing throttle, trailing brake, understeer, oversteer, spin avoidance and more. Experience the famous 'high speed bend' in the morning and put everything you've learn during the day into practise in the afternoon.
Activity Day
There's also a female-only Activity Day from 9am until 4pm on 18 August 2006 for £36 per car.
The Activity Day gives you a chance to have a play in your car (or steal the other half's car!) in a safe environment, increase your driving ability and confidence, meet new faces and have a laugh, without the pressure from the men.
The day is a taster of what is done on a CarLimits training day, with tuition from Andrew Walsh but with more fun and more people, so less cost. Have a go at the high speed bend, circuits in the afternoon and the slalom course which will be open all day.
And there are a couple of Activity Days for anyone scheduled for 21 July and 22 September 2006.

Will there be a blokes only day as well then?
There will be a special day for guys with really small weenies, just like you, real soon. It will not have any women present so you don't feel emasculated.
My wife has been to ladies only days and has really had a blast - no huge egos to contend with and far more is usually learnt.
I am also sure that there would have been a fair amount of 'male-bashing' centred around the attitudes of some men in automotive forums...

I'm sorry so it's OK for a ladies only track day (which is fine if they feel it makes a difference) but when someone asks for a blokes only track day, that's unacceptable? Seems like equal rights only applies when it's convenient.

Given it is a very male-dominated pasttime/activity, I can understand it. Many women may well be interested but put off by the excess testosterone given off by certain men.
Now go find another thread - there are plenty of 'rights' issues needing your soapbox a lot more than this one!

I was going to write a suitable response but I'm afraid I just can't be arsed. You're obviously set in your opinion, I have my views on the subject (which don't preclude the idea of ladies track days) so let's just agree to disagree.
BTW, I will contribute to whatever thread I damn well feel like.

Are the £180 training days done in your own car or is one provided?
I did a full day earlier in the year, had a great day and learnt a lot about the car at the limit, as well as utilising the spare on the airfield to practice between sessions. Andy teaches you how to push the car right to the limit and control it when there, rather than what you're taught at track days which tends to me biased towards safety.
It's well worth doing I'd say.

Will they be teaching tailgating and braking round corners?
F'kin chauvinists!
Calm down, dear.
In an attempt to clarify my tongue-in-cheek jibe (not that you probably care), I was referring to tailgating on single carriageways, rather than motorways/dual carriageways. The former being (in my experience) more likely to have a woman behind the wheel (oblivious to her actions), the latter a bloke (fully concious of trying to push the car in front out of the way).
For example, given how easily you flew off the handle over this news story, I would hate to imagine just what you'd do when my girlfriend passed you on the outside of a corner in a car half as powerful as your Griff - and she would...
I'd get dressed up in my mothers clothes just for a chance to have a whole racetrack free of the minority of trackday attendees who use such a session to hound other drivers, show-off and generally try to prove to the world that they don't possess a pen1s comparable to that of a wasps.
Given that most trackdays are only attended by males, i'm all for this!
The men would be
trying to chat them up
trying to impress
getting very upset if overtaken by a woman!!! So generally falling off through trying too hard.
Its a shame that a lot of women riders and possibly drivers are put off by this, personally I think they should just laugh at them!
So its a great thing to do
