AS One
PistonHeads member BarryG tries out the AS One for himself
Discussion
The Radical SR3 is a joy to drive on the road; not only is it around 4K less but is also British!
Ahem, we all know you loath the ASOne, you seem to take every opportunity to slag it off or say something is better, but please give it a break, it's not a bad car, have you actually driven one?
BarryG seems to think it's nice.
but I personally think the AS One is worth it!
Cmon james, give it a rest. I for one like it and would love to drive it, but until then I cannot pass judgement. I also don't have a problem with german cars, they seem to be a darn sight better than most other cars on the roads, and some/most british ones when it comes to build quality and performance.
James, take a look at that last picture.........now imagine the front splitter on your Radical being mashed by the first speed bump/kerb it meets. The AS ONE (as it states in the review) is a road/track car not a TRACK/road car.
What happened to you not slating it anymore.......in the words of Vic and Bob "You just would'nt let it lie"

must say, driving anyhting like the Coram or the ASOne would be fun if you didnt get stopped every time you took it out by the police! anyone thinking that you could drive a radical sr3 on the crappy roads in this country and not suffer damage is daft! the ASOne looks nice and is an anagram of A Nose too! i dont understand this trackday car malarky though, for 40k you could but a caterham roadsport to use on track days, a radical clubsport to race at the weekend and a s/h integra type r or something to drive on the road!

If anyone is looking for a one-off car with plenty of character; then the G4R is for sale at £15,950. Some £14,050 less than an ASONE. Not only is the G4 a good car (and this car beat various cars in the 750MC roadsports!) The car has plenty of history. Even the G20 offers fantastic value at under £11K.

And the personal hate campaing rolls on..........
James,
I'm pleased to say that your curious campaign to dissuade anyone from showing any interest in the AS ONE is easily recognised by most readers.
However, it does seem irrational and particularly unfair given that you've not driven the car.
You are attempting to persuade everyone that their car is overpriced and unworthy of anyone's interest.
You are potentially doing damage to their reputation if anyone was to take you seriously and I believe they deserve a better chance to prove themselves than you are giving them.
Please call it a day now and say no more.
Thank you,
Ted

Errr.... no. Up close the AS One is an exceptionally well finished car - it's as well built as any standard production car. Joust, if you mean it's a bit "kit car" in the way it looks, well, personally I don't agree with you, but each to their own.
I don't want to get into any arguments, but when I looked at the XTR2 at the Motorsport show, that did strike me as a kit car, even though the car on the stand was factory built.
It didn't look quite finished, with exposed body work catches and the like. Still, as I'm sure jamesc will point out, it IS a kit car and it costs a lot less than the AS One.
PS: Thanks to those who liked my article - my first car-related publication, but hopefully not my last.
As you say Barry - it's all a matter of taste. I haven't seen one in the flesh, so I can only go on the photos. To me it doesn't have the lines of a "factory" car - looks a bit "cheap".
Perhaps it's because it's in "battleship grey" that doesn't make it look nice - I think it just reminds me of that grey plastic that you used to buid models out of.
Hopefully I'll be able to see one at this years track events in the flesh!
