Guys,

Long shot appeal to the masses. I did my first RWYB day last weekend and loved it - but had real traction problems. Big factor is that I was running on 205/60/14 standard road tyres so I'm after something grippier for my next attempt. I have a pair of 7" x 15 revolutions I can put on especially for the runs so I'm after a pair of really grippy sport tyres, possibly even slicks to use. Road legal not important 'cos I can take them to and from the strip in the car.

Just BEFORE I pay through the nose for a pair of YOKO 32R's on 225/50/R15's (which I'm told are what I want), does anyone have a used pair of tyres (not necessarily yoko's)?? of this size that they would be prepared to sell me?

Cheers,
Stu.

If they don't need to be road legal then try and find some second hand slicks. Yokohama A032Rs are a very sticky radial road legal tyre but a slick tyre or even something like an Avon ACB10 would be stickier still. Yoko's in that size will be quite expensive (as will ACB10s).
For a cheap alternative, a lot of sprinters who have to use List 1A (i.e. normal road tyres) are using Stunner Scudos which are about £35 each.

Have you looked at Toyo R888's?

Alternatively, have a look on www.rallyusedparts.co.uk/ for some cheap part-worn rally/circuit tyres.

I got 7, 17" P-Zero Corsas for £55.

Thanks for the ideas guys, Yes, I did actually think that a pair of used slicks would be good - there must be loads around (although in 15"???), like I said they don't need to be street legal, but as well as the tread pattern, I'm assuming there's quite alot of variation in the softness of the compound that I'll need to look into. For the moment though, I'm just really after something cheap that I can try and gauge the effect of....

Hey Munter - those Toyo's look quite useful, have you tried them and can you compare them to Yoko 32Rs?.

Thanks,
Stu.
