I've got my first car trackday on Saturday at Bedford and I'm going to have some baggage with me since I'm staying at a B&B the night before. I don't really want my overnight bag flying around my car whilst I'm lapping.

What does everyone else do with their bags, spare oil, tools etc when on a track day?

Sometimes a mate turns up to passenger - then the stuff goes in their boot.

If I have to leave things in my boot as I circulate I try to make sure everything is bagged up and tied down so it can't slide about (or be a problem if it does).

If you are at a track with pit garages and you get one then you can usually leave a bag in the garage. Obviously you can't leave anything valuable in it! I have *never* had a problem, though...

Enjoy your day!

Ahhh. Bedford. I don't think its usual to have a garage there. However there is a little room with coffee and a drinks machine near where everyone parks. A bag could be left there if necessary. Usually the organisers set up a desk in there (which is usually manned) so someone is keeping an eye on things...

Most people just dump their spare wheel/toolbox etc. on the ground behind their parking space. Everyone watches out for each other as a kind of unspoken rule. I keep my wallet and any valuables in the glovebox though.

Girlfriends/wives are handy for keeping an eye on stuff too...

Unless you've rolled in at 3am the previous night and woken up all the other guests most B&Bs I've been to are perfectly happy to hold onto your gear for you for the day Leaving you to only take the car to the track along with a tyre pressure guage and torque wrench- if anything goes wrong I'm sure you'll be able to blag a lift with a mate or someone you've met at the track to pick up any tools you need.

Apart from that I normally rely on a bit of trust for the other trackday goers; not everyone is out on track at a time anyway, so get chatting to the guys parked up next to you and they'll probably keep an eye on your kit.

Excellent. Thanks guys. That backs up what I was hoping. I'll try the B&B first and maybe the track organisers as my backup plan. Cheers.

The only thing I would add, and it may be obvious, is that it can rain. So if your kit is out on the grass then you will need a water proof sheet of something to cover it.

I just leave my stuff near the car.

I use a groundsheet to keep my stuff off the ground, folded over to keep any rain off. I've never ever had the slightest worry about stuff going walkies at a track day/sprint, but if that was an issue then the ground sheet would also serve to keep valuables hidden from casual view.

Some people use small folding tents instead, you can get little kiddies tents for a few quid that are just the right size. I'm happy with the trusty groundsheet, though.

I shove everything in a bin bag, and dump it near my car parking space. never had a problem either. there is a quite a lot of random stuf just lying around at these thngs and i dont think people try and mess with it because:

-they do not know who it belongs to, it could be somebody nearby
-they are there to drive or be part of the scene in some way and not your average opportunist thieves

its not fool proof, but it seems to work ok

Well ive known of 1 set RS4 wheels go & 1 set M3 wheels, & JeremyC even got his spare wheel nicked off his trailer once!

Personally I have a long bit of chain & a padlock & thread it through my wheels & toolbox & nutgun to stop 'em going walkies, shove 'em in aspare pit garage if i can, if not I have a tarp if it rains & no pit garages, Coombe, Bedford, Cadwell etc

There are rare occasions when things 'happen', and from what I've heard it's more likely to be scallies in a van rather than other trackdayers. Wheels are most common, and I've heard of complete motorbikes going.

If you don't have a tow car, do consider padlock-&-chaining it together (particularly wheels), and nondescript bags. Another tip is to get pally with your neighbours - chat, fag, polo mint. Keep an eye on their stuff when they are out and ask them to do the same. You won't get 100% coverage, but there will be less time when no-one's watching out.
