Hi fellow petrolheads. Just signed up. I am going to the Gold Track day at Silverstone on 3rd May. Anyone else on this forum going? It's been years since I drove at Silverstone. I guess it has completely changed. Anyone know what a quick time would be for a road car on the Grand Prix circuit?

There is only one way to find out!... Get strapped...lower your seat, get close to the steering wheel and... Have FUN!!!
Trackdays are about having fun and exploring your own limits in your own car. Lap times are irrelevant, in fact it is a condition of the organisers insurance that no timing devices should used at all.
My son just did a track day in his old Clio at Donington -- kept it neat and on the limit with lots of tyre squeal on the road rubber, but his ear to ear grin was a joy to see. Slow car but great fun. I was going a fair bit quicker in my Porker but both of us had a good day irrespective of times.

Couldn't agree more. I Love Donnington too, I've driven all sorts of slow cars round these with Rover. I think my favorite was the Montego Diesel Turbo... slow but such a laugh.
Fair point, and I agree that they shouldn't be competitive events and I wouldn't break the rules. I just find that it's useful to have a rough idea of the sort of time my car ought to be capable of so that I can tell whether I am driving like a muppet, or I am actually getting close to the limits of my car. I find with the Westy that the car is much quicker than most other stuff, but that's down to the car, not me. I might buy a slower car in future and have more fun!
