Imagine my disappointment yesterday; realised silverstone day was on the national (go kart) circuit (not goldtracks fault but my own stupidity), pick my car up which is still 100bhp down, arrive in the snow to find half the guys leaving. misery. and im not even cold from standing around yet. anyway to cut a long story short a mate of a mate of a mate etc.. called Stuart Turvey had agreed to come and give me some tuition. the guy drives in Britcar and is properly quick.

remember the satisfaction when you first nailed a particular technique like heel and toeing, how much faster and confident you got? we all talk about oversteer and 4 wheel drifts etc.. but with the exception of a few corners, for me, it wasn't always something i was really in control of and it was so slippery yesterday it was scary. to start with. but by the last session yesterday every corner was diliberately induced oversteer or 4 wheel drifting, alternating between mucking around and trying to go faster. what a top laugh. anyway the guys name is Stuart Turvey he's a spectacular driver and superb instructor, cant recomend him enough. what a day winter trackdays are the way forward...

should add the usual disclaimer, no affiliation/interest etc.. other than whats said above

dont suppose anyone has any photos or vids of the day ?

C/o The Fearnsmeister perchance?

That Audi in your profile, Francis, wouldn't happen to be hanging around in a unit just outside Silverstone, would it?

Sounds like a quality day.

hmmm i knew i'd seen it before. after 2 years of gently nursing the stealth s4 round the country ive sold her , although the red 964 rs and the black scumbaru that are permitted to share the uberbeetle's fettling shed are mine.

I was there as well, about 5 cars went off between 9:00 and 1:00 - and by this I mean went off badly enough to need recovery. Most of the time people where putting their cars into the pit lane wall. The Saxo that hit the wall at about 12:30 was probably the most "spectacular" leading to the nearside rear wheel ending up on the grass opposite the pits and the Saxo pointing the wrong way up the track against the pit lane wall.

Some nice machinery there though and some people with, shall we say "confidence", giving said machinery a good workout.

We sent out about 4 people in our Atom (not perhaps the best choice for the day) and they all lasted only a single lap. Praise to the youg lady who managed 15 minutes on track time followed by about 30 minutes defrosting over the exhaust!

francisb: Hi there....

'twas I in the Grey Civic.
I enjoyed the day aswell, even though the weather was atrocious for much of it. IMHO some drivers were being a little too 'brave' for the conditons whilst in close proximity to others (mostly at the end of the club straight going into Luffield).

btw - as i said at the time, very impressed by your Subaru's traction out of Maggots!

Very pleased I had a roof and heating...

the rock hard suspension settings and semi slicks wern't helping much; it slid around really easily but that just made it more fun. my first session was so slow but just being shown how much traction the car had and how to use it properly really helped.

really felt for the atom and radical drivers...
