I, m going to my first track day shortly but I've noticed one of my front tyres has a small chunk of rubber out of the sidewall its about the size of a thumb nail. Is this tyre ok to use. I dont want to turn up and get knocked back.

It depends how deep it is, and where abouts on the sidewall. Basically not good news though.

It's been said many times; your tyres are the only contact that you have with earth.

Any damaged sidewall is not good. On track, you will be cornering at greater speeds than on a road. You will be placing additional stress on your tyres, especially on the sidewalls with greater corning forces.

If you want to enjoy the track day, i.e. not worrying about if your tyre will hold out, then replace it now.

I wouldn't chance it.

Thanks guys, it just takes that common sense approach to sort these things out. I'll change it.
