Hi to all who came to TRL on Sunday. What a great day! Robb Gravett is a genius! I have nabbed the last place on the Ice Driving Experience next month, so sorry to anyone else who wanted to go.
A few of you saw me taking photos, and I came under pressure to put them on line. This is my first go so hope it works. Let me know if it works! Thanks to Uncle Bob for organising it all, especially the discount. Thanks for the ride in the yellow peril - shame it was too noisy and had to be retired. Will your videos be available on PHs?

What was the day like. I'm thinking of going in Jan.
Is it heavy on your tyres as I can't afford to have replace them afterwards?
Did anyone use the cars they provide? What cars do they provide?
And of course, what did you actually learn from the day-do you think it it's helped you?

I learnt a lot about car control that day. I used to race a Mini. Finally worked out how one guy regularly beat us all. His lines were completely different from everyone else, and he was much quicker.
I found tons more grip after Robb's tuition - the tarmac was evil and slippery - previously I would have been all over the place. His main emphasis though is on not getting into trouble, and what to do if you do get into trouble.
You can stick to Robb's car if you want. He now has a tie up with Chrysler-Benz. We used a Brabus Smart (which we managed to break), a Merc C 230 coupe, an SLK, and an absolutely bonkers A class turbo with AMG bits on it.
I spent most of the afternoon in my Noble. My rear tyres were pretty worn before and I thought I was going to finish them off that day. They looked pretty similar at the end of the day. Robb says the technique is kind on tyres. After all you do not want them to go off during a race. I used to find my tyres going off when racing, yet my friend seemed to make his last to the end. I think the technique is tough on brakes though.
I would really recommend you go in January. Will see you there as I have booked my 15 year old son into that day - I don't want him making the same mistakes I have in the past. £360 seems a lot but it was well worth it (normal cost 1G - they seem to like PHers for some reason).

I am about to book the jan venue when they open again on the 3rd. I'll be going with a few friends and i intend to use my car for some of it. I had the impression that they had Z4 s which seem like a good drive but the A class/smart car etc that are listed above are a bit of an anti climax. I'll ask on Tuesday but just wandering if anyone knows if there are Z4s there.
Also, is this discounted course much different to the full price course. I reccommended a friend book this and they paid full cost for March. Both seem to promise full 1-to-1 tuition. Is this so and do they have enough instructors there. if anyone can post some more info on the course I would really appreciate it.

The PH day is a cheaper price because it is NOT a 1 to 1 ratio but more like 1 to 4. (instructors to students)
With regard to the cars, Robb has changed his sponsorship deal and now does not use BMW's. When we were there it was all Mercs, including an SLK.
I took my TVR, as do many others, and the general format was to use Robb's cars in the morning and then your own in the afternoon. On the PH day there is a certain amount of standing around waiting for cars/instructors that you would probably not get on the full price day. For me this was not a problem. I learned a lot.

Hi Tuska - seems you've grabbed the photo for your profile! You're welcome. The light was really weird that day with the Hemel fire but it brought out that flippy-floppy paintwork nicely!

Car control is the same whatever the vehicle you are driving and you will be able to drive your Ferrari with an instructor around the circuit. UKBob tooks his Cerbera round the slalom (until it was deemed too noisy).

P.S. If your car is too noisy you may not be able to run it (a bit like Castle Coombe where Merlin Motorsport does a great trade in bolt on silencers).

Thanks for the info guys I spoke to Cate today and booked me and another 3 friends for Jan. She explained the differences between this offer and the full cost one and they are prety much as you said i.e. more people/cars which would mean less time with instructor (however an instrucutor is always there when you are driving).
Sounds like a really good course and i am sure I will enjoy it. I recently went to an airfield day for exactly this reason i.e. to improve my car control. I find that the 355 is quite tricky to balance once it starts to go and I can't quite explore these limits on normal track days due to lack of space and relevant tuition.

And to see you again Geoff! And a thousand thanks for letting me drive your Noble. Wow - the turbo is insane! Very fast, and totally different from my car, the steering and throttle response is so light and responsive, an eye opening (and tyre smoking - sorry ) experience! Glad you enjoyed driving my cerbie, you handled it very well and didnt seem to need any practise laps getting used to it first

UKBOB thanks for the demonstration of how to go sideways with tunes banging whilst smoking a fag (my nuckels are still white)
PEVO dont forget to put your stability control back on or are you going to leave it off from now on?

It was a great day Glad you enjoyed the ride (and toons) Its a great buzz driving on the limit, and really does leave you feeling amped for a good long while after. I was really chuffed with my (dare I say improved) ability to catch the back end and correct without either loosing it or without having to come off the power, each time the back end goes a bit too wide (which, erm, is most of the time then )
Phil definitely took the cake for most epic wipeout of the day in his 355 though and did some fantastic driving too It was a really cool day out, 4 girls this time (2 driving) and isnt it nice the way everyone just respects/accepts everyone else, regardless of previous experience or ability Ive not yet been on a day where there wernt a few people who didnt own sports cars, or had no previous experince - its a great course for everyone.

Definately up for it. Just let us know when its finalised (dates, cost, etc.)
If we have time for it, I'll see if I can get Rob Gravett to take me round the track for a "high speed" lap !!
P.S the PSM is firmly back on - at least until I've got a few more training days under my belt!!
