How do you guys test your noise to make sure you're going to pass the track test?

I really keen to get the fury on track asap. (Few bits happening this month then should be good to go)

But I'm abit worried its too loud. And I don't trust my phone or the cheapy eBay testers.

I actually think it's louder from the intakes. It's got a 150mm x 700mm straight through silencer on. And part of the work this month is to fit an airbox over the trumpets.

Thanks

Well the best way is to pop to your local circuit when a trackday is on and get them to test it for you.

Alternatively, if you don't trust cheapo decibelometers, then buy an expensive one you do trust.

As above, the best way is to go to a track beforehand, but take it from me having bought one, the cheap ebay testers (at least the one I bought for about £11) was well within a db or 2.

Good wood is my nearest track. Still 40mins away.

Do you know which tester you got ? As that sounds good

Thanks

i think the problem is phone testing, they can't realistically handle much about 90db. but get a proper noise tester that is rated up to 130db and that'll be fine.

couple of named brand ones from draper, laser tools or RS for about £40.

A mid-priced DB tester will give you a good guide, but, nothing is foolproof beyond a no-limit day.

Each circuit has different levels, uses different machines, asks for different RPM, has different testers and it can change on a given day (atmospheric pressure/ temperature/ wind??).

I had an itch to take my 996 (non-standard pipes) on a track day, went to Goodwood before-hand where it tested at around 102db, so signed up for a 105db members morning.

On the day is tested at 108db (impossible) and they waved me on, didn't trigger a drive-by all day.

I cannot be 100% certain if it is the same one, but this looks so similar that I would guess that it is just a cosmetic external update of the one I bought.

I know its not fool proof, i just don't wan to turn up to a day with no chance of it passing.

think im going to get, a cheaper one online, if you guys are having reasonable results thanks guys

Make sure your engine and exhaust are at running temperature when the test is done. My Westfield would fail the 90dBA test with a cold exhaust but pass after a warm-up. Also, raise the revs gently rather than over-rev and then go down to the set speed.
