I am looking for a 15" MSUK List 1a/b/c tyre for wet races* (I'll come to that in a minute) and somebody has recommended the Giti GTR2 which is apparently used in the VW Fun Cup.

Does anybody here have experience of these and an opinion on what they are like in the wet?

  • I normally use proper motorsport wets but they are prohibited in the club/series I am now going to do most of my races with. In my experience, Wets are incredible when it is really wet but are pretty nasty on a drying track. With the exception of one race where it was torrential the whole time, every time I have gone out on wets, it is has stopped raining and dried up during the race. Therefore, I am looking for something which is acceptable in the wet but can handle a dry/drying track.

Used them at a drying Blyton Park day for the first time this year, very impressed with how well they coped despite relatively low tread levels (~2.5mm currently). Warmed up pretty quickly and we didn't struggle for grip compared to the previous road tyres we would use in the wet (Michelin PS3s in that size)

That's great - might give them a go

where are you finding giti gtr2 tyres to buy? a google of them brings up... this thread, and a page on tyretek which currently has some available.

are they literally only available in 195/50/R15, through the funcup website?

Yes they are but thankfully that is the exact size that I need. Will probably give a used set a go first.

The Fun Cup use them in all weather and so I was hoping for some feedback on what they are like in the wet.

I've bought two sets used and one set through tyretek, once scrubbed they're so cheap I wouldn't even bother with new ones, they last really well on a slowish car like ours.
