I would like to get into track days but before "investing" in a track car I would like to do a few track days to make sure it is something I want to do. Is there a company that does track days where I can hire a car and receive tuition at the same time?

MSV is the most straightforward option with their Caterham hire. Check Bedford here: https://car.msvtrackdays.com/

It's never a low cost option mind you.

Good stuff. Opentrack looks like good value at the one of their own days (day included).

£1000 a day? No thanks, I'd buy a car for that, then sell it on afterwards.

What car do you drive now? Just take that on a novice trackday. Any car is capable of turning a few laps without exploding if it's well maintained.

I've seen someone turning laps in a diesel estate car before, which was fine!

Often, the original poster on such a thread doesn't follow up with an outcome.

It's their perogative of course, but it's nice for posters that took the time to contribute, to see the eventual conclusion/decision made.

It is not easy - in fact I'd say pretty much impossible - to get in and out of a 300hp/ton car for £1000 after a full track day, in a perfectly reliable car, insured and with the price of the track day and tuition thrown in.

If you haven't driven a 300hp/ton Caterham you will be astonished at how much quicker they are than a 170-200hp/ton BMW/Clio/Porsche etc. And they can lap all day.

That said, you're absolutely correct that you can rock up to a track day in pretty much any car whatsoever and have a great experience that gives you a taste of whether you like track days.

thats easy enough, most if not all trackday organisers have tuition that can be arranged. Javelin Trackdays for example offer 20 minute tuition slots for £25 a time.

get yourself over to either bedford or blyton park (both good tracks for beginners as there are no racecars) and book some tuition slots at the same time.

PS what car did you get?!?

Or open track as they offer tuition sessions for free/included in the price of the day,

But then the day is more expensive with OT, so 6 & 3 x 2s really, except that as OT call it free everyone books it up when they book the day, so the majority of slots are gone by the time you get there.

Not all of the cost difference is down to the tuition being included 😉

If you know you want instruction then adding it to the TD booking I don’t see as a problem

I didn't say the cost differential was down to the tuition.

You made a point that OT included it as a positive.

I just said 6 or 2 x 3s the OT day is more expensive, and then you have the issue that because everyone gets it included everyone wants it, whereas with Javelin only those that want it pay the extra so it is generally easier to book and get a good slot.
