Just seeing if anyone knows the answer to this before asking when I renew.

When you take out road insurance there is obviously clauses in the policy which state that you aren’t covered when driving on track days or the Nurburgring etc.
Does this mean you can’t do a track day in your road car at all or your policy will be void?
Or is it saying you can, but any accidents on track aren’t covered?

I imagine it’s the latter as you could just lie and say any damage occurred on a public road.

Asking as I’d like to take my car on track but don’t know if you need a road policy which includes track days.
Car is low value so I wouldn’t need specific track cover.

Thanks

IMHO if you are taking a low value car on track and not wanting to go the way of insuring it you are prepared to take it on the chin if you stuff it in the armco and write it off without the need to claim.

If that is the case then it is not a worry for you anyway.

If that is not the case then you are either prepared to commit insurance fraud or you need to insure it for the track.

Yeah basically I’d take it on the chin if anything happened.
Just trying to understand the wording of the road policy.
Reads like you can’t do a track day full stop, whether anything happens or not.

You won’t be covered whilst you are on track but taking your car on track won’t void your policy.

There is (or at least was last time I used it) track insurance that you can take out, either to cover you for a period of time or a specific event.

Some road insurance policies do (or did) include Track Days (people I know had up to 5 TDs in a year allowance).

There are separate TD insurance providers like Moris/Morris, can't remember if they do a separate breakdown/recovery.

Note;- ALL the main roadside assistance companies like AA/RAC etc have stopped doing assistance/recovery as part of their usual policy at TDs now.

All of the above are correct.

Your normal road insurance does not cover the trackday, but does not prevent you from using your car on track.

Moris will cover you for a specific event.

My specialist road insurance covers me for up to 5 track days.

Last year I discovered the RAC small print that wouldn't recovery me from a track after a mechanical breakdown. (Wish they'd pointed this out when I first called and told them where I was, rather than waiting half the day for a bloke turn up and tell me he couldn't help.)
