Hello chaps.

Hope Mrs E doesn't read this.

Her birthday soon, and I think she'd quite like a hoon around a track. Now, what I'm *not* after is one of these "4 laps in a ferrari at less than 5000 rpm" type sessions.

What I'm looking for is more "here's a cataham, here's an instructor, there's the track, see you in an hour or so" type of think.

Car not important. Track time and good instruction (and a load of fun) are important.

Anyone been on a track day recently in the south west or midlands that they'd care to recommend?

What's your budget ? Would you stretch to circa £500 for an absolutely memorable day for her ?

Try the Palmer Motorsport Sensation day at Bedford. I've been lucky enough to be invited a few times & everytime it brings a huge smile to the face. Without a doubt the slickest operation of its kind. Although aimed at the "corporate" market, they will also do "individual" days where you can "compete" against others (in terms of timing etc). It's one of the few occasions when you can actually drive & get a time for your lap etc with prizes at the end of the day etc.

I did it again yesterday & it certainly renewed my enthusiasm for the Jaguar JP1. Fabulous machine.

The staff & instructors are all superb & will push you much further than you think you're capable of .

If she hasn't done it before, she'll have a great day & will be talking about it for a long time.

Have a look at the website & whet your appetite.

Run by a fully experienced racing driver, guiding you every step of the way whilst you push the perfectly balanced Lotus Elise to what you think are its limits. This is until Phiroze gets behind the wheel demonstrating capabilties you never thought possible for a further two exhilaratig laps, concluding the perfect day on a high. Not exactly a track hoon.
How about a day with Cptsideways & his crew at Drift accadamy or Conedogers?

isnt there a sprint day at oulton or brands

"After a full briefing you’ll start your experience with a challenging sprint course against the clock. With slick tyres on the back, you’ll easily get the back stepping out as you put the power down around the twisty course. Next up your car control will be put to the test with the figure of eight course. Holding the powerslides will be second nature by the time you have mastered the challenge. Finally, you’ll take to the main circuit to drive some flying laps with your instructor alongside before you swap seats and the professional demonstrates every ounce of the car’s capability with a high-speed ride."

Two options spring to my (tiny) mind. Companies such as BookaTrack, Easytrack and Track Action all do a rent-a-caterham style option, where you pay for the trackday and extra for the car. You can normally get at least 30 mins instruction thrown in for free. You rebt the car by the hour or by the day, your choice.

Or, you could try those people who do a TVR Tuscan experience day - not tried it myself but I have seen some good reviews of it. Other point worth mentioning is that I'm sure one of their instructors is female, which might be better for your wife. I *think* they are called 'Topcats'

Book bedford GT circuit with any decent trackday organiser with your car, book instruction for both of you and have a blast together.

No point in modifying your car with suspension, brakes etc to then pay someone a fortune to borrow theirs. Friend of mine's ST205 is quick on track and is more or less standard, yours should be a great laugh. The added benefit is she gets to drive your car on the limit and see how it behaves and therefore you feel more comfortable when she drives it normally.

Spot on.

Charlotte is really nice - your wife might find helpful to have a female instructor. It's £550+VAT, which seems like a lot of money, but it's worth every penny, I can assure you.

Good points, well made. I'm out on track again shortly.
And I don't think she'll ever drive *anything* "normally"....

Many thanks to all for your thoughts.

One thing. Wife? Yikes........

Not quite.

ProdriveLive's half-day is sposed to be good, and you get a variety of driving in as well - bit of tarmac rally, bit of high-speed circuit, skidpan, and a few other bits and bobs like brake-and-avoid.

All in their cars (Focuses?)

I know of this because Mazda give you a freebie version in your own RX8 when you buy one, and I was impressed.
