Avon ZZR recent feedback
Discussion
Think these have stopped producing now but there are still some about, just wondering if anyone can provide any recent feedback on them compared to the current crop, been searching and can’t find anything more recent than about 6 yrs ago.
For reference it would be dry trackday use only on a 1150kg fwd 280bhp car. So sticky? Come up to temp quick? Wear rate? Consistency?
Any and all feedback appreciated

Avon has indeed closed (end of 2023). Nova (Avon backwards !) is emerging from the ashes and I believe have purchased all the molds etc....but not clear if ZZR/ZZS are in the mix.

I can't talk to heavier tin tops but ZZR/ZZS have been the go to tyre for a lot of Caterham owners (including myself) for road and track. The ZZR is about as close to a true race tyre that you can get and still legal on the road. I only use ZZS which I find fine (Caterham), ZZR might be a bit more marginal in the wet but epic in the dry. I think the ZZR had the choice of 2 compounds (soft and super soft from memory but I'm sure someone who actually uses them will be along to confirm)

ZZR tyres on a 800kg car are epic on a warm dry day. Couple of laps to get up to temperature, then they just keep going without overheating.
Even on the road they are great when the weather is good.
Not great when cold or damp, but usable.
I've used them to get home in very wet weather. Then its like you're driving on ice.
I read that the Avon factory is closing, but are we certain the owners will not continue making the same tyres? Otherwise, I will miss them when I need new tyres this summer.
