Nurburgring Accommodation

Looking at accommodation for the ring this year and already prices in the summer look to be massively up on previous years with several places that I have previously booked no longer on the common platforms like booking.com. Does anybody know if there is a reason that hotels have been removed or is there a better (German) platform to use for booking?

I’ve always found places round the ring not on the booking platforms until a few months before.

I've been thinking the same thing, accommodation prices are up and choices are down.
I've been for a few years I a row now and I usually book in January so things have definitely changed.
The Chunnel prices have risen as well.
I think this may be last year for a while as the ring is becoming more expensive every year and is definitely getting busier with the younger 'I don't give a crap' crowd.

Prices for accommodation are increasingly on the up as the track is attracting more visitors than ever. They know they can fill rooms so they up the price.
Most are doing the same as they know there’s no other places to stay if you want to be close to the epicentre.
Germans loathe paying commission on things so they are probably dropping the usual sites because they can then rake in 100% for themselves. Also most places have a big list of loyal returning customers so again they don’t have trouble having to hunt for people to fill the rooms.

That’s certainly fair enough and I would rather the money went to the small hotel owners as opposed to the large booking website but even looking on some other f the local hotels that have websites, everything seems fully booked. I’m sure that this can’t be the case and it must be that some hotels haven’t opened and published their availability yet. Last year I went twice and booked accommodation at relatively short notice with no problem. Now looking ahead to June, it’s a completely different picture.

Hotels (and pretty much everything else) around the Nurburgring love cash, it's hard to hide your tax fiddle when you use a booking platform.

We’ve been staying 20 mins up the road at mayen recently , I’ve said before it suits us better as we’re no longer trendy , ie , we just go for a nice trip and we don’t use facebook as we’ve no idea how show off in front of virtual strangers .
It’s a great drive up there and there’s a couple of decent restaurants and bars , I should probably keep it quiet but the hardcore ring heads will always choose adenau , we used to stay at oberbaar , ithink it’s ring am brunchen or something now , but back in the day when guido owned it it was great , unfortunately he’s no longer with us now and it’s some sort of credit card hotel .
I look on the pics of it and remember waking guido up still sat at the circular bar table after an al night session with him and gunny , a guy who was something to do with the carrlsonn race team ?
I’m sure some of the regular ring goers that live in the area will know him , we went to his garage in upper oberaar and were presented with a black slk 55 race car , a very wide body mark 1 golf and a r/s 2000 x pack type escort .

Guido Droll was the owner, i used to stay there a lot when working at the Nürburgring. There were quite a few broken parts from some of the racing cars i engineered mounted on his walls, he was always keen for these broken parts and mounted them on wooden plaques with photo's and information of the cars they came from.

Not sure if you know, but in a previous life Guido was involved in the design of the Euro bank notes, he retired from that and bought the hotel. He was often found slagging off the effects of the Euro on the costs of living, definitely not a fan! His interpretation of the smoking ban was amusing, he built a canopy over the bar and had fans running to suck the smoke out, so long as you sat at the bar all was good.

You are correct on the link to Carlson too, the main mechanic from the team was pretty much resident at the bar, he was fun. He had a cracking girlfriend called Birgit who was a belter, she loved the English and in her youth used to drive to the UK to go to the night clubs. That ended when she was in a bad car crash on the way back late at night, which broke pretty much her whole body. Lovely funny woman.

I knew guido very well , we hit it off immediately and we returned a couple of times year when possible for the last twenty years , he was always available to help in the case of a ring disaster.
Strange you mention the engine parts , do you recognise this ?
I bought it off his second wife , Natasha or Natalie , the Ukrainian lady he married and subsequently ran the hotel ?
He was a great guy and ill for many years , I had a difficult conversation last time we stayed there along the lines of “ will we see you next year ?
“ I doubt it “ was the answer!
He was right , I sent an email to Natalie asking guido to accept a package that wouldn’t be sent to a uk address , the reply was “ package no problem , guido dead “
Unfortunately she didn’t speak much English and used a translation app hence the blunt reply !
You may have stayed there a similar time to us , we spoke with a Geordie accent and there was a photo on the back wall of us with guido.

I’m sat laughing at your mention of his smoking ban interpretation , the smokers indoor shelter !
I remember asking him if smoking was a good idea with his health condition , he shrugged his shoulders and said “ I’ve already got cancer and I’ll die from it , what’s the worst that can happen “
I replied “fair point , three more asbach and cokes for me , you and gunny “

I was staying there mainly between 2005 and 2010, the car parts were smaller stuff like gearbox parts, biggest one he mounted on the wall was the CWP assembly from a 9 litre CanAm car. Made a nice job of it, unfortunately i cant find any pictures from that time, it just wasn't something i did, these days everyone seems to have a million photo's from their phones.

Prior to my time staying there i used to stay with Bren and Suz at Sliders guest house or in Nurburg itself so we could hang out with Sabine in her little place. Those times were great, this was before Clarkson did his piece, so you only got those properly into the place there. It changed a lot after that Top Gear piece, it's unrecognisable these days after they chased the money. It used to be quite a cheap place to visit, not anymore.

Speak to Nick McClernon that runs the Gantry, he'll sort you out. It's lovat in Drees literally a couple of minutes from the track entrance.

We stayed in Kelberg last year and it was a perfect location for us. Nice and quiet, a great drive to the Ring entrance and only a few minutes from a local car wash.
We're staying in Kaisersesch this year which is quite a bit further away but I hope the drive to and from the Ring entrance will be an enjoyable one.
At my age I want my own bedroom and ideally an ensuite so would have been happy to stay in on of the Linder Village houses that have 3 & 4 bedrooms. Unfortunately these are already booked for the 5 days I'm going and there was very little other choice for our needs.
If anyone knows of a 4 bedroom pplace with multiple bathrooms close than Kaisersesch please et me know.

A group of us usually stay at RingRace flats in Adenau as it’s private and the rooms have everything you need. Jurgen, one of the owners, has a garage there as well fully stocked so he can lend you tools if you need.

It’s close enough to the centre of town in Adenau as well if you fancy a pizza and a beer at night.

Prices haven’t really changed in all the years we’ve going but probably because we don’t go through booking.com anymore.
