I got a test drive of the new Honda Civic Type R which I loved. The car has Track data for timing built in to the car infotainment. I asked the dealer if the warranty covers track use but they did not know for sure. The service manager said he did not think track use would be warranted. Does anyone know or have any experience of track use voiding warranty?

My new RS4 Competition specifically details how to set the car up for track use and the procedure to adjust the suspension etc. As such I would not expect any issues with a warranty for something mechanical going bang whilst on a track.

Might be worth a read of the Honda manual ..............

Should specify in the warranty terms and conditions.
Most manufacturers historically won’t allow track use, Hyundai specifically say on their N models that they do.

Read the T&Cs.

And if it goes bang hope they let the claim through.

There’s Track and then there’s Track

Only you will know if you have spent a day on slicks, or just done a couple of 20 minute sessions to feel the available performance without getting your collar felt.

I know track miles can be hard but a lot of people thrash a cold car for 5 miles, park it up then do the same thing on the way home….

What’s worse, a 2 year pcp owner who will hand it back 10 days early just to avoid a 18/20k 1st service bill or someone invested in keeping the car a long time who changes fluids way before any book service intervals.

Surely the warranty would cover a track days because whats the point of having Circuit Data for timing built into car. The dealer should be all the UK circuits. Maybe it is a Honda trick to catch owners out lol.

id be very wary of assuming anything about the validity of the warranty... id go through the owners manual, and terms and conditions of the warranty with a fine toothcomb.

if it isnt expressly stated anywhere, i'd contact the dealership and get the response in writing that the warranty does cover trackdays before booking anything in, if you want to be covered.

Definitely check the fine print in the warranty.

As said above Hyundai cover the N models only, I believe Honda have historically covered the last couple of RS. My mate says Porsche do, though may only be with the GTx / RS models?
Toyota do with the Yaris GR.

When I was looking at getting an I30N 2 of the 3 dealers I spoke to were adamant trackdays (and it is only trackdays, not racing etc) were not covered under the warranty so I had to look up the warranty book first and it says clear as day in there that they are so don’t trust the salesman

Attach your plates with Velcro. Remove when on track. How their car breaks they would only know from you telling them.

My old Mustang blew it's oil cooler on track. Got it recovered by the policy with my bank to home then got Ford assist to recover it from home to the dealer. No questions were asked.

Modern cars log everything. You think it won't log, location from GPS/sat nav, speed, date, time etc. for later investigation or to wiggle out of a big claim?

I've been fortunate with no issues on new cars but recall a fault in my 2003 M3 and when reading the fault, the car logged revs, speed, date and time of the fault. Fast forward 20 years and I expect a 2023 M3 to log a whole lot more. I did always cover up my plates on track, more for my own peace of mind.
