Hey all,

So I have a few tiny bits to sort (relocate battery, harnesses, wet tyres on my spare wheels etc) but then I've pretty much finished my clio 182.

Is stripped, buckets, half cage, pms shifter 15 inch OZs on 888s etc

I now want to focus in just enjoying it so I'm thinking about the sort of purchases that can improve a track day more.generally so this includes e.g.

Camping chair
Thermos flask

I'm wondering about things like netting
I would LOVE a cup holder solution as this is one of the most annoying things now I have nowhere for a coffee on the way too and from the track.

Any other ideas??

Thanks

That is why the bulk of TD goers don't strip their cars, after all the 10kg lost isn't going to make you win is it?

I've got a 172 and the cup holders are rubbish. A few people have tried to 3d printed versions that either mount between the seats or use the fasteners for the dash trim, but i haven't seen many in real life.

ive definitely shed more than 10kg! and I can definitely feel the difference in the weight of the car, but I am by far the weakest link in the chain so the honest truth is its just fun isnt it!

the car had no real comforts beforehand - the cupholders were ste. I still have sound system and aircon etc.

I am more thinking generally items which make trackdays more comfortable, so as I think about it more I am thinking about things more like

one of those things you can use to make a coffee in the car! Do they still exist, the water heater things?
cushions to make the seats comfier on a long journey

sounds like you need a thermos flask, a deck chair and a good talking to.

If it's properly stripped then get a cupholder and screw it to the dash?

hehe

I've never once thought I needed to take a chair to a track day.

ETA have the coffee in a thermos on the seat next to you. Replenish as necessary, no cupholder required.

I'll never understand this desire to 'build' a pretend racecar if you're not going to trailer it to and from the circuit.

There's little more miserable than doing a long drive in an uncomfortable car, then spending all day thrashing around on track, only to have to do that same long, uncomfortable drive at the end of it.

Unless you're doing 10+ days a year or prepping for sprinting etc., keep the interior, keep the cupholders and keep the aircon. You might convince yourself you can notice the difference (debatable), but at what cost?

Was very close to stripping my MX-5 out before this realisation hit me. This year I have budgeted for 6 track days and next year I will have the budget for 10-12 depending on condition of the car. Even with this frequency, I still have to drive the car to the track and back. I've sat inside full stripped cars as a passenger and it's absolutely horrendous unless you're driving. People don't really appreciate how much the interior of a car dampens noise, I was like a little built Saxo with a straight pipe and I went home with a nasty headache and ringing (worse than usual...) in my ears.

Don't get my started on the temperature either.

This is why I love a Caterham. And earplugs hehe

Featherweight, great track pace but still a soft ride and comfy seats. Chuck on the roof (or half hood) and put in earplugs/earpods and it's a more comfortable drive to/from track than a stripped out tin top.

I take two camping chairs with me to track days, mrs gets the most use out of one! I only do maybe a 20 min session every hour or so, but don’t want to be sat in the car the whole time so it’s perfect.

Bag of simple tools, air pump that’s about it really.

The chair I take on trackdays gets filled up with lids, pieces of cloths, go-pro's anything I dont want on the floor in the garage haha

It's a bit of a running joke that for the last 10 or so trackdays we've had it in the back of the van everytime we've taken it out it's never had a chance to be used as a chair
