What are you chaps using, I was looking at the racebox mini. But it's Dawned on me that is is probably just a Bluetooth gps sender in a nice box with an app. (£180) vbox sports are (£300 plus)

I used lap trophy, Last time. but because I don't want anything on the dash. I chuck it in the glovebox and of course this gives mixed results. Track addict was too confusing to use rolleyes

So have any of you guys had any success with using a cheapy gps sender. And the apps? Harry's lap timer seems well regarded.

I was wondering. If I could do it through android auto and use the cars gps. (Requires me updating the head unit to a later version which I was considering anyway)

Or any other recommendations.

My phones a pixel 6 is that's relevant.

If you want the data to be accurate and reliable go for a vbox sport. - Yes it costs more but its accurate and the circuit tools software is good.

Should you eventually wish to sell the residuals on them are strong.

VBox Sport best for the track driver and probably some people racing too.

Generally very well supported by apps and reliable.

Plug an antenna in if you don’t want it to be visible/worry about getting stolen.

Cheers for the replies, guys.

I've totally ignored your advice and bought a Garmin GLO to work with Harry's lap timer( one of his recommended gps senders). I'm interested, in seeing if I can get it to overly the obd data on my gopro footage. So This should be an interesting experiment. The GLO is 10hz so the same as an earlier vbox.

I'm probably going to regret my choices and end up getting a vbox, however so far I've spent £109 on the app and the GLO (new), and Already got a hero 11.

I shall report back I'm at keevil on the 23rd of next month. Then hopefully somewhere in August and then anglesea in September.

Would be very interested in your findings, as been looking at similar. Coming from a full VBox (when I used to race), I do miss looking at the data.
Keep us updated, please...

Dragy have a new app , Dragy-lap uses the standard dragy sensor. I have used it recently.
Worked fine, you can overlay video etc

The racebox mini is probably the best hardware for the money, with a 25hz GPS, and accelerometers+gyro. Can be used with other apps aswell like race chrono. Have used race chrono a bit and its definitely good, but of course a sturdy phone mount is needed.

I use the race box pro, since i wanted a standalone unit. Its decently priced,It works well, is super accurate and the app is neat for quick analysis between the sessions. No 25hz sensor though like the mini.

For deeper Analysis i export and use circuit tools.

The vbox sport seems very steeply priced for what you get, it think you will be happy with the solution you chose. Can always export and use circuit tools anyway.

If you don't want detailed telemetry, you can do worse than getting a recentish GoPro, they record GPS signals and of course you have the visual feedback of the racing lines you hopefully take. I found analysing my laps in this way very instructive and a lot cheaper than a full VBox telemetry setup. If you get any instruction, you can ask you instructor to film a lap in your car that you can compare against. That's super helpful. I have videos for a couple of my favourite tracks and make sure to watch them before a track day to refresh my memory˙˙

For most people, having access to G force, brake pressure, steering angle etc is way more than you need IMO.

Racechrono software with Racebox Mini hardware for me. I used to use Racechrono with a 10hz GPS from QStarz and the Racebox Mini, being 25hz, does give slightly more accurate results for me.

I have a couple of ropey old GoPro 3+ blacks, Track addict on my phone and I edit them together using race render which is a great tool and easy to use. In fact my whole setup is simple and the hardest part is remembering to change batteries in the cameras between sessions.

I would argue that the Racebox Mini with the 25hz GPS receiver blows a lot of the more expensive equipment out of the water. Also has a large and growing list of third party apps that support it.

Little update, I did a track day at keevil on Friday. And the GLO was spot on. Best data I've had yet. Although I didnt use Harry's Lap timer in the end. It didn't have keevil. On and the custom track part was really confusing too use and wouldn't save . You also have to go to the start finish to 'ping' it not practical on an open TD.
Lap trophy however was good. Only used the free version but was able to track times and set the start finish line on the map. Might by it and see if I can export the data. For the GoPro footage.

Pretty accurate track from the GLO. That was with it mounted in the center console.
