Going to the Nurburgring next week and I'm after some recommendations on camera placement.

I have a dashcam (Nextbase 412) hard wired, which records pretty good video, so that's one forward facing view sorted.

I have a Akasa action cam which is a cheap knock off of a GoPro (I call it the NoPro smile ) which records decent video, but the audio is lousy.

I also have my mobile phone which records good video.

Putting the NoPro between the seats facing forward would give a good in car view, but the Nextbase is pretty good anyway.

Any suggestions?

Can you mount the 'no-pro' on the front towing eye (I know there are kits for GoPro), or secure it to the bottom of the bumper (e.g. secured to the grill in front of radiator, or actually behind the grille)?

I've also use a head-cam strap which works with both helmeted and non-helmeted heads....to show a driver's view.

I could be wrong, but I don't think you're allowed cameras on the outside of your car at the Ring??

Depends on who sees/doesn't see it (so the more discreet the better) and what mood they're in wink
If they do catch you, then just remove it and don't be an arse about it.

Have seen obvious ones stuck to front spoilers go through, and almost invisible ones behind grilles get pulled.

I stopped videoing my laps years ago, and the only thing I capture is on my dashcam - and that's only shared as evidence of seriously poor driving, or an accident.

laugh That's true, what they don't see doesn't hurt them. I just worry about the short and aggressive steward shouting at me again. She really tore me a new one over a go-pro, even when I showed her the additional safety strap holding the camera in place.

I always find I want to push harder and TF isn't the place for that. However, I fancy a Ring track day and will likely set up a few interior cameras for it.

Thanks for the suggestion, if I got told told to remove it there wouldn't be an issue.

The weather forecast isn't looking great now for next week, so I might end up holding a camera as a spectator anyway because I certainly don't have the skill to handle that place in the wet.

Well, whilst the wet days do have their own risks, there also tends to be less people there...so can be a good time to practice at a slower pace.

I've been there when I was the fastest vehicle on track, leading a convoy of what turned out to be 20 cars doing 20-30mph when the heavens opened and we could hardly see the barriers next to us.

I thought the same, and I have ~40 laps, it really isn't all that daunting, but I was stting bricks driving up to the barriers.

The trick is, don't drive on the dry line. When wet the rubbered tarmac is slippery, so take your time, don't do any sudden changes of direction and try to be progressive with the loud pedal.

It's definitely intimidating, but the reality is much better than I thought

I have mine mounted on a bar inbetween the two front seats on my Skoda. Gives a good view and shows what’s going on in the cabin.

Brands again..

I need to sort out an external microphone ideally. Any ideas where to mount one and how?
