Nurburgring Roll Call 16-17-18 September
Discussion
nice! not that I condone TF timing ;=) but if you get a clean track, see how far below the best recorded, non-Brabus Smoadster BTG time you can get.
BTW that time is 9:25. Mortals can aim for 9:30 (my best was 9:40, and not inclined to push too much harder!), the 9:25 was by Christer (VLN racer), who told me he'd never try to top it - among other bezerker moves, required taking SX flat :/
let us know how it goes please! Very curious how much the extra ~20 Brabus hp makes. I was just topping 140kph before mutkurve (130 at the exit), and 185 before SX.
cheers
Kurt

I'm in. Probably with a Smart Roadster-Coupe BRABUS. Anyone else down?
I think it'll be too busy to go really quick but I'll see how it goes.
I actually quite like days when it is busier, as long as there aren't too many closures. There's a fun vibe in the paddock, the track is exciting and - let's not kid ourselves - few of us are going to set any records even if the track was clear.
Taking SX flat in a Smoadster is the act of an ill man! Thanks for the reference times though. I was wondering what sort of time was 'quick' in a Smart Roadster. I'll see if I can use my unfair horsepower advantage to claim the unofficial record.

one good thing about hot NS laps in a smoadster, is that their absolute quickest is approx the same as a decent *average* NS driver in a 150+hp car, so even with heavy traffic you're not forced to make 15 passes per lap, or on the other hand have too much worry about being rammed up the a$$ by an Edo (except in Kesselchen - I guarantee you'll be looking in the mirror more than forward
the Brabus should have the handy trip computer for timing, mine required a CD burned with a 12 minute song
important note: the non brabus should have slightly different shift points, but beware of that pesky auto-upshifting at redline. Very nearly caught me out going from 4-5 after aremberg, back end got very light in the middle of one of the fast switchbacks because I wasn't paying attention to the tach :/
Also a pain in Brünnchen - car will want to auto shift from 4-5 before B2, which will KILL your speed out of it, so I ended up lifting halfway down the short straight, and not braking at all for uphill right.
Other than that, Smoasters are GREAT fun on the NS )
it might not still be dl-able, but a very wet Smoady lap I did last year was hosted here:

I notice the MLR have a big trip planned too. Would have been nice to upset a few of them on track but it can wait

Edited to add: No need to answer that! I'm just reading the big thread about it in their forum right now...

mild is right, that was really more a feeling of frustration for having to lift before mut-kurve; momentum is obviously the key!!
turn-in is great, despite the low-geared steering and relatively huge steering wheel. Overall feeling is very Opel Speedster-like, only with 1:2 the power, 3:4 the size, 1:1 the tires, and 5:1 the comfort
Dry laps were always TC full off, the one wet lap I did with it off found me quite sideways at the big downhill T13 left, with Ben Lovejoy in the passenger seat. Even 80hp can put you sideways on a wet NS if you're not careful with the throttle :/
You cen see it squirm a bit at the T13 chicane transition in the vid, but 90% sure I had the TC on for that lap.
BTW: there are 2 horizontal bars right behind the seats that is perfect for mounting a camcorder on

Thanks for the tips. I downloaded the video - you must have had a mild scare when that Discovery looked like it was tempted to put the chop on you at Mutkurve! Trun-in looked pretty good on the car. Did you have the stability control system on?

9.30 myself. Still tons of margin left, did not do to do SX flat. I think he did it on the 15inchers, and I did my time on 16s. Makes a big difference I guess. (both speed in the corners (less) and drag uphill (more speed on the 15s).
Stephane Clepkens did 9.18. Now THERE's a goal

wait a minute, since when do you ever leave "Tons of Margin"?!
Sure with some more confidence in the car I could have been relatively safe and faster through a few points (Höhe Acht in particular I know Kim took with just a lift, but I always tapped the brakes, and as ALWAYS I wuss out at the big left after Eschbach), but cannot fathom how that 9:18 was done...
Honestly, where the hell did he find those 12 seconds under yours?? In a fast car, I can see a 'good' driver beaten by 12 seconds vs. a "mental" driver, but most of the NS curves are taken flat in a Smoady!!
would love to see a vid from that lap...
have you sampled dog meat in Shanghai yet?

Since Easter 2002
Seriously, I could see where I could improve. A lift here and there is not needed and anticipating the gearbox a bit better would help a lot as well.
Man, I can't wait to go back
No dog meat yet, I hope.......
