Keeping a car at the Ring ???
Discussion
Discussed before i'm sure.....
Does anyone keep a car out there just for some weekend fun ???
Would love to take the GT3 there more, but don't want the mileage to pile up etc.
I was thinking of going halves with someone, but would appreciate any info on where to park it during the week, and prices etc ???

Ring-racing offer a limited number of storage spaces, for around EUR600/year from memory. May be worth giving them a bell for 2006 storage. They're only about 3 km from the ring on the B258. Other than that, may be worth a post on the 'ringers list forum (go to ben lovejoy's site for more info).
surely not to keep the GT3 there?
Do Manthey not offer any facilities?
Cheers

Fergus,
Thanks for that you ring vet you !!
Nah, not to keep the GT3 there, maybe just something like a 968 CS for some weekend fun !!!!

I keep my car at the Ring - and have done since 2003 - I've use various establishments - including a friends' garage.
Ring Racing are really good value at 50ish Euros per month - plus they will store spare tyres etc. too. - and are good for repairs, tyre fitting, etc. - if the Ring is open (including evenings and Sundays) then they are open. They are flexible and nice to deal with - if sometimes not great on a deadline.
Manthey will do storage but it is very expensive - I think in the region of 6 Euros/day (don't quote me on that). They are not looking for this type of business (clearly), I think they only do it for regular customers as a 'favour'. Customer services levels at Manthey are just superb and compared to UK hourly rates they are very competitive.

Guys,
I may look at doing this as well. Does anyone know the cheapest hire car tariff you can get from Frankfurt (I presume this is the easiest option when flying?).
Sounds like a plan to me.
Out of interest, what would people do to get to the airport the first time they drive the car there and leave it there? Taxi? Seems like a decent drive to me, esp in a cab!!
Glenn, I'm sure the GT3 would be happy in Germany!! Although having seen how fast Euan's 968CS can go round, I'm sure it would also make a good steed!

Why not go out there with someone else and come back in their car.

Isn't it best Stanstead (or whereever) to Koln/Bonn on Germanwings (and I think Easyjet to Koln now) and Sixt (or whoever) hire car from there?
A taxi to/from the airport is very pricey.
fergus,
Frankfurt Rhein-Main airport is not necessarily the best choice. Frankfurt-Hahn is 87km from Adenau, Köln/Bonn 80km, and Frankfurt Rhein-Main is 160km away.
Hahn is the destination for discount flights such as Rynair. The connection to the Ring from there is B-roads only, so you still might consider Köln/Bonn or Rhein-Main with better infrastructure.
There are often weekend specials for rentals. At the moment you get a Polo for €96 for four days from e-sixt.de

I picked up a rental from Hahn last weekend. The parking lots/slip roads are a mess with construction, but there are lots of flights from London arriving:
<a href="www.hahn-airport.de/default.aspx?menu=arrivals&cc=en">www.hahn-airport.de/default.aspx?menu=arrivals&cc=en</a>
There is no really direct route between Hahn and the NS, I went a bit out of the way to the NS because it was late at night, took the B50 towards Frankfurt, then the A61 A-Bahn past Koblenz, then the 258, a bit more than an hour. On the way back we went through Cochem (great place to stop for lunch or a good night out), and THESE b-roads along the Moessel, and on to Hahn, are a great drive, probably similar time vs. the A-Bahns.
Avis has Boxsters, 997s, Z4s etc also if you want the trip to be a bit more fun than a Polo
There are also busses that go from Adenau to most anywhere, but you could probably hitch a ride with somebody else flying out of Hahn.
cheers
Kurt

put in 55483 Lautzenhausen as "Start" and Adenau, Nurburg etc as "Ziel", to get an idea of the land. Putting "Cochem" as an intermediate point looks like a quite direct route (they don't suggest the road along the river like I took, a shame as its a scenic, twisting, smooth road).
