Hey everyone. I've got a track day coming up and I'd like to use a tablet to display some live data.

Has anyone got any recommendations for a tablet holder that'll put up with a bit of track day abuse without falling all about the shop? Seen some suction pad ones on eBay but I'm not completely convinced tbh.

Failing that I'll just get the duck tape out lol
TIA!

Look at the specific TDO rules, even 20 years ago most said no suction cups and anything in the car needs to be securely strapped/bolted/screwed to a part of the car that won't move. That even applied to the commercial type vaccuum pumps used by motoring shows for filming.

I can confirm from experience an item flying around in a car if the worst happens can cause some pretty nasty injuries.

Yes and most trackdays do not allow live timing of any kind. personally i dont think the idea is a goer - leave the tablet at home, concentrate on what's out the windscreen rather than what's on your tablet.

I am not looking to use it for timing purposes. I just want to keep a closer eye on what the engine is up to, i.e accurate coolant temp, inlet temp, oil temp, boost pressure etc.

As has been stated above, can't see any TDO agreeing to what you are suggesting as it wouldn't be secure & suction mounts aren't allowed even for things as small/light as gopro cameras.

A double din headunit that displays Torque OBD is probably your best bet for TDs.

As I said myself, I am not convinced by the suction mounts anyway and am therefore looking for an alternative...

Suction mounts are OK with every TDO I've ever used, so long as they have a secondary tether - even just a cable tie chain from the rear view mirror to around the suction cup is fine. Just so if the suction does fail (it doesn't), the item will still be physically tethered to a fixed point and stop it flying around.

Your other option could be something like a Quadlock case, which you can then get attachments which will allow it to mount to a 3M sticky pad for a GoPro etc.

Thank you for your constructive response. I did actually message the TDO and they said that it would need to be securely mounted with a secondary mount/tether also... Will probably look into a suction mount then, thanks!
